Hi all - my first posting, so bear with me.... I have Acid Pro 4.0 and was hoping to get a copy of Garritan Personal Orchestra to use as a VSTi within Acid for scoring short films. I notice that Garritan isn't listed as a supported VSTi on Acid's packaging and GPO doesn't list Acid on its website as a sequencer.... - is anyone using GPO in Acid? Does it work well? Thanks all LD |

Unless you absolutely need midi I'd host it as a VSTi somewhere else and just record audio into Acid. That's what I do. AP midi is not good enough for decent composition imho. |

Thanks for the advice - I'm certainly no expert on midi. However, if I'm going to be 'writing' scores with GPO, it would be useful to use midi for chopping & changing parts/notes, especially as the (more musically minded) film directors I work with will tend to say they love a string line, but wish I hadn't put a particular note into the part cos it changes the feel of a scene.... Do you think there's any way I can use it as a VSTi in Acid Pro, playing most of the parts in as midi? Not sure if Acid can cope with GPO at all.... Out of interest, what does Acid Pro lack in midi functionality compared to, say, Cubase SX and Sonar? |

If GPO can run as a VSTi, can you run a demo to see if it can appear as such in ACID? Remember that ACID Pro 4.0 is not a MIDI sequencer in the strictest sense (much like ACID is not a multitracker in the truest sense). ACID is a loop sequencer first and foremost for both digital audio and MIDI. That being said, comparing ACID to Cubase and/or SONAR is like comparing apples to oranges. But that doesn't mean you can't cope with running GPO as a VSTi within ACID, especially if many of the functions are within the VSTi itself. Thanks for the advice mD - I shall seek out a demo & try it out. Would I have to install the demo in my VST's folder (where Acid looks for my other VSTi's)? I think you can choose optional folders for it to look in? Actually, d'you know how I ask Acid to look in optional folders for VSTi's? Questions, questions.... Ta LD |

> Actually, d'you know how I ask Acid to look in optional folders for VSTi's? If you go into Options > Preferences > VST Instruments tab you’ll see three locations for assigning where ACID looks for VSTi SoftSynths. I do all my MIDI recording in ACID Pro using VSTi SoftSynths and it is definitely more awkward than using Cubase or SONAR, but it is doable. ~jr |

Thanks - I shall probably splash out in the near future. And buy GPO, too. Ha ha LD |

Hello again - I've now got GPO installed on my system, but Acid Pro is refusing to recognise it - it's installed in its own folder under program files, and I've selected this folder as an option for Acid to look for VSTi's, activated the 'update' button, but it's still not appearing in the list within Acid. I've even tried copying the .dll file (the file type that Acid seems to recognise for my other VSTi's) into my main VST folder with my other VSTi's, but still no joy!! Johnnyroy - you mentioned you had a friend who was using GPO fine in Acid - are there any tricks I'm missing out on here? Thanks LD |

> Johnnyroy - you mentioned you had a friend who was using GPO fine in Acid That was Alastair Brown right here on these forums. He said it was OK for me to post his email address so you can reached him at: info at alastair-brown dot co dot uk. He says its working fine for him. It sounds like you did everything right but I usually force all my VSTi’s to install under my default plug-in directory regardless of where they want to install. ~jr |
