Anybody using an M-Audio Firewire 410? How's the stability going? Good drivers? If I can pull it off (financially) I'll be mating one to the M-Audio LX4 5.1 monitoring system. Anybody have any input regarding the LX4s? I'm hoping to get into surround mixes. Nothing fancy for now, the odd sound effect here and there for video work. Maybe I can get into more complicated stuff as I learn. Music beds for video are often complex in 5.1. So, any people with good/bad experiences regarding the Firewire 410 or the LX4s? Thanks Mario |

I haven't heard anything bad about the Firewire 410 or the LX4, so I guess it's worth a shot. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

I have a Firewire 410-- and I have absolutely no idea how I lived without it! Now, in all fairness, I don't need it for heavy duty work-- I use it for voice overs & for driving my monitors. I've read about the same driver issues that everyone else has, and I ALMOST didn't pick one up. But, that being said, I've never, ever had any problems with it. And, I might add, it sounds GREAT & is insanely portable. I don't use it for surround work yet, however, although it certainly has enough outputs to do it. David. |

After some research, I guess the biggest bug was the ASIO drivers. Are those stable now? Mario |

I've been using a Firewire 410 basically since it hit the streets. I have had a few stability problems (every once in awhile, it is no longer recognized by my computer), but nothing major. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the Firewire 410 has unbalanced outputs. Because of this, your cables running from the 410 to your monitors are more apt to pick up electrical noise. I ran into this when I bought a new pair of Event monitors, and had to add noise filters between the 410 & my monitors. They worked, but they also decreased the signal so much, that I then had to buy a pre-amp to boost the signal enough to get good sound levels. I have quite a bit of computer & mixing equipment in a small area, so I'm probably more prone to electrical noise than some people.....but it's something to think about. Now that I've got the problem fixed, I'm very happy with the 410. |

Great card and besides the 8 unbalenced outputs it has 2 spdif outs(optical or rca)- another point of interest is that , at least at the time I bought it, the F410 came with an offer for Ableton 3 for 1/2 price($200) that I made good on today. End of July it's $49 to upgrade to Live 4. Killer app.!!! |

Thanks for all the help guys! Just ordered my Firewire 410. I'll have to save up for the LX4s, funds ran out. :-( I'll use inexpensive Creative T5400 surround speakers for now. Mario PS: Anybody want to buy an inexpesive, used Echo Mia and UNO midi>USB interface? ;-) |
