Can anyone tell me if Acid4 or other SoundBlast products can preform my task. I have cassett tapes of my church surmons that I need to edit the level of sound. Sometimes it's very loud then drops to a whisper (you know how preachers do... lol ) When I transfer the cassett into an MP3, I want to automatically lower the hi level and raise the low level to a more "normalized" level output. If SoundBlast doesn't do this, can someone suggest a product that can? Thanks for your help FROG |

Screenblast Sound Forge can do this for you, but note that the full version of Sound Forge has more tools to play with to sweeten your audio. BTW, don't render to MP3 until you're done tweaking your file(s). MP3 is a compressed, lossy format. Each time you save compresses the file even more. Save as WAV or Sony's own proprietary lossless-but-compressed PCA format until your ready for a final render to MP3. Thanks for the fast reply. So my understanding is I should get the full version of Sound Forge to reach my goal of leveling the sound? You say it has more tools to sweeten my audio, can you give me any ideas? You understood that I am transfering from cassett to the pc? Sound forge allows this? |

The full version of Sound Forge has a function called "Wave Hammer". This is extremely good at taking a variable level source file and "squeezing" it to something more even. I used this all the time on the church service recordings it do. It's kind of like an intelligent auto-level control, but it allows you to choose how much squeezing you want to do. And yes, just about any audio recording or editing software will allow you to transfer files from cassette tape or any other audio source through your computer's sound card and save them to the hard drive. |

You may need or want the Noise Reduction plug-in. |
