Subject:Acid 4.0 won't see DirectX during install

I recently got a new computer. My old comptuer was running under Win98SE, and I had no problems with Acid. When I switched to WinXP Pro on the new system and tried to install Acid, it told me I needed DirectX8.0. Now, I've installed both DirectX 8.0 AND 9.0, and it doesn't seem to see either of them. Also, when it gives you the list of programs it needs to run, there's normally an option to install them right through the Acid installation, but now the Install button is greyed out! What do I do?? |

Did you restart your computer after installing DirectX? Suzan |

Yep. I reinstalled both 8.0 and 9.0 a few times, just in case there'd been an installation error, restarting after each time, but still no luck. |

It sounds like your DirectX files are corrupt--there should not have been a problem with Windows XP. Try running the DirectX Diagnostic tool: Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag, and then click OK. The "System" page has the DirectX version listed -- if you installed the latest download version from Microsoft, it should be 9.0b. The second tab, "DirectX Files," will list them and the notes should say "No problems found." Is this what you have? Suzan |

I'm really out of ideas: you should never have seen the DirectX message to begin with. At this point I'd contact Customer Service. Sorry, Suzan Support |

Can you employ a brute force method and reformat this new system (provided you have a "system restore" or Windows XP master CD-ROM)? Sounds like something got yoinked in the process. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

Double that. I was thinking system restore would be good. Then install DirectX 9.0b. Suzan |
