I use Soundfonts with the BlasterKey MP3 MIDI Keyboard in ACID 4.0. I have a bunch of Soundfont banks that I can use with the Soundfont Player, but when I record them in ACID they all play back as the default piano sound. Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, what can I do to fix it? |

There is a VSTi plug-in called sfz that will play soundfonts in acid. You can get a free version through kvr-vst.com. Go check it out. |

This was just asked (and answered) in the help with midi thread. It’s not limited to SoundFonts but a general MIDI problem with controlling MIDI hardware. I also recommend sfz as the recommended approach unless you want to use your soundcard for some reason. ~jr |

i personally convert the soundfonts i like to use to dls format (with extreme sample translator) - especially larger ones - and load them in the dls synth (part of Acid Pro) which seems to be able to load/stream big sf2 files better than sfz: i made a test with the gigapiano , which is a huge gigastudio version of a piano of filesize of 500MB+ , converted it to both soundfont and to dls , where i loaded the first into sfz , the second into the dls synth . sfz wasn't able to load the sf2 into memory (not enough on this machine) , and the direct from disk feature choked a few times while playing back. the dls synth on the other hand played back nicely the large file without glitches . i looked into the task manager and it seemed that the dls synth only loads a part into memory at first and so seems to combine best of both worlds (memory/disk usage). |
