Required several hours to get these basics managed, begining without 5.1 on computer. 1) Configure 5.1 on the soundcard using latest driver and support downloads from mfg. (mine was an Audigy 2 Platinum board). 2) Configure and test the 5.1 speaker system using the board's software. 3) Opened a new Vegas project configured for 5.1 Audio in project options. 4) Insert a test audio file. 5) Animate desired pans as described in the Vegas documentation. 6) Make a short test render of audio only, using 5.1 audio render option. 7) Finally, verify that the player is properly configured for 5.1, or you will not hear the pans.
