Programmers: What kind of memory?

What kind of memory and how much do you use when testing Vegas?
Is it in Dual buss mode? If I try to go over 2 gig (3 gig in single mode)
or 4 gig in dual mode automatic Vegas goes bananas in the sound department. Also Acid Pro and Media Player all in sound playback. I use an Intel D875PBZ 205 board with 3.4 meg 800. Intel is totally useless in support matters. My memory is "Avante". Intel says there
is a problem with the AGP aperture setting taking memory away from
the 4 gig setup and your post-up reads 3033 instead of 4096. They say
they may come up with a fix. The CMOS is in full auto and says the memory is wonderful. Should I junk the board and/or the memory? I am retired and can't afford to ponder to long as 6 months from now I might be pushing up daisies.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Windows has problems with this too. What version of windows do you have? I would also think that an AMD 64 could handle this much memory. You could probley go to one of those for a couple hundred.

I have XP Pro with all the updates. I'm not sure of anything lately but everthing seems to work fine as long as I don't go over 2 gig.

You could try installing a copy of Linux on another drive/partition. If that doesn't screw up the it could be a windows thing (i keep a copy of linux just to do diagnostics)

What operating system? I'd assume Win 2000 or XP. The board, and both of these Windows OS's are supposed to handle a maximum of 4GB memory.

I have the same borad w P4 3Ghz 800Mhz fsb and 2 GB dual channel ddr 800Mhz on Windows XP, and have no problems like you are describing.

I haven't heard anything about the AGP Aperture setting stealing system memory. Is this waht Intel told you?

If you are having sound problems in other apps as well, could it be your sound card drivers? What sound system is installed in your PC? I've got an Audigy2 ZS platinum that hasn't given me any problems.

UPDATE: OK, now I see you're using XP Pro. Since you say you only have problems when using over 2GB, it's probably the memory you se, or a limitation in the board itself. Since I only use 2GB, I don't see any of these problems.

Is it vital for you to have 4GB installed? I know since it's supposed to work, and you've already invested the money in the 4GB of memory, you'd like to use it. But if it's absolutely not needed, it might make more sense to just chalk it up as a "learning experience" and revert back to 2GB, which will make life easier for you in the long run.

Just be glad you don't have the problem I have with the D875PBZ - which is having to reset the clock if I dare turn the system on any time between 8PM and 10PM. Wierd, I know, and naturally Intel is clueless.

ASUS Prime Z590-A Motherboard with Intel Core i7 11700 8 Core / 16 Thread 2.50GHZ, 64GB Crucial DDR4 3200( 4 x 16GB), nVidia GeForce GTX1650Super 4GB DDR5, SoundBlaster X AE5 soundcard, 3 x 4TB Samsung 860 EVO SATA 3 SSD, 2 x 8TB Samsung 870 QVO SATA 3 SSD, 1 x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVME PICE4 SSD, 2 X WD 4 TB NVME PCIE3 SSD, 2 X Viewsonic monitors, LG Blu-Ray writer. Windows 10 (latest build), currently using VMS17 Platinum.

I only have the problems if I try to go over 2 gig. 2gig runs fine except
I have 2 more gig to install. "E" mail from Intel support said its a problem at 4 gig. My AGP aperture is set at 265 for the Matrox Parhelia and 3 x 265 =795 minus 4096 = 3301. I get 3304 on the post-up if 4 gig is installed with the P-22 bios. The CMOS says everthing is hunky-dorry in full auto, no overclocking. If I install 3 gig and run single channel mode everything reads right except Vegas will not play sound.
Also Acid Pro and Media Player. (Audigy sound card)
But I feel lucky now that I don't have the clock reseting problem.
