Scroll bar in Vegas 5.0 causes Glitches during Recording in ASIO

TubeLover wrote on 5/11/2004, 8:55 PM
I'm using 2 delta 1010's in a 2.4 pentium 4 w a 40 gig system drive, a 160gig storage drive, and a 100 gig tracking drive (record destination) and a radeon 9000 video card with vegas 5.0a. During playback, it works great but if while recording I zoom in or out or scroll on the scroll bar, it causes glitches and pops and skips and the occasional crash. Sometimes it even happens when I don't scroll or zoom.i'm using asio w input monitor on. I found that if I moved the project to the drive on ide 2- 2nd position there is less of this. If I record to the drive on ide 2- 1st position it's really bad and if I record to the local disc it's very minimal but still there. What could this be? Anyone else having this problem or possibly solved this prob. in the past? The project I'm recording on has about 14 tracks mixed for playback and happens no matter how many tracks are armed for record. It doesn't happen with sound mapper or wave driver. Just asio. If anyone can help it would be appreciated!!

I put all new harddrives in my compuer and it still happens. Could it be the memory?? This weekend I'll have enough money to build another computer and see. Boy!......upgrading is expensive!!! I wrote m- audio and they told me to check my IRQ"S and they are all configured correctly. I'm stumped. Any tips out there??

O.K. screw it...I'm gonna build a new machine should i go pentium or AMD?? Boy...I'm just talking to myself aren't I!!! Which is better w/ vegas and m- audio??

Forget the machine, the soundcard and it's drivers have more bearing on stability than you might imagine.

Try and get hold of another soundcard and see if it works for you. I had simliar problems with the Delta 1010, switched to an Echo Layla24 and all is good so I can personally recommend that one.

This is a known issue in Vegas 5.0a. This will be fixed in a future update.

what problems are you having??
PipelineAudio wrote on 5/14/2004, 10:03 PM
glitchy clicky clacky sticky things, the things you heard when vegas four was first released. Itll go away soon Im sure

I just wish I could be using it already. I remember that about 4.0. I had updated my 3.0 to 4.0 for the ASIO but I ended up just returning it because I could never get it to work. Since then I learned that reformatting the system in PC Standard instead of the normal acpi mode ,or whatever that windows xp installs default solves the problem I was having. I have since been using sonar to track (ill,,,,gross) and vegas 3 to mix. Which is really annoying! I can't wait till i can use vegas to do it all!!

Yeah, I find myself still relying on Vegas 3. It lacks some features but doesn't have ANY of the wierdness I run into with 4 - Vegas 3 is stronger, faster and more stable on my system. I'm going to purchase the Vegas 5 upgrade this week and watch the forum reports for a few months before installing. The bugs have started showing up a bit later than they did with Vegas 4 but, it appears that they have indeed arrived. Frankly Vegas 4 was a waste of money for me. I ended up using it on only one major project and will complete another shortly, but only because I started it with Vegas 4 and don't want to go through the hassle of rebuilding the mix in 3.

<<glitchy clicky clacky sticky things, the things you heard when vegas four was first released. Itll go away soon Im sure >>>

Submit bug report:

Problem: glitchy, clicky, clackies

Repro: just move the thingy, move the virtual fader (you'll then see the first "glitchy"). Then move to the other thingy, add the plugin (first "clacky" should appear).
Not sure where the "clicky" came up, still moving some things. Will update soon after I post 17 more msgs in sony forums.
btw: Saw the first "sticky" after visiting a different website recently, not sure if v5 related yet. Will research the other website more and make sure.

Conclusion: the things resort to the glitchies, the other things resort to the clacky and clickies.
Possible that if I let it sit, all this will disolve and go away.

I can list other problems you might be having Pipe. One might first start with you and the sony msg board.

actually no...

go check the weather outside. Is it damp? This could be the problem.
If it is damp, go grab the layla and lay it in the center of the lawn.
Back at your daw...
Install the latest delta drivers, bring up V3 or V4, WAIT FOR A V5 UPDATE and get to work.

OK smartass, I put a lot more detail into the reports I send them, when I can find specifics, but I think the way I wrote it pretty much captures the way it feels

Echo layla is not curing that problem for me.
it's only since V5 too.
PeterVred wrote on 6/11/2004, 6:08 AM
After you have corrected all the interface problems...look into the vegas 5A upgrade...5a caused pops on my machine w/layla.
uninstalling and going back to 5.0 cured it.
just a thought.

5.0b fixed that problem and seems to be working for me now. But there is still one small thing.
Has anyone ever run dual monitors with vegas? Ever notice how if while you are recording if you click on any part of vegas that is in monitor 2 the track that is shown during recording (the one that's red) will sort of glitch behind the cursor in chunks rather than apearing to be connected to the cursor as if it where shitting it out??? and when you click back on the main window it stops?(makes sense) Well now that happens to me in vegas 5.0b while recording even without dual monitors. Other than that, seems to work fine now. Thanks Sony!!!

YES another dual monitor user! I see the same thing. Hopefully some of my problems can be narrowed down since you got duals..pleased to meet you!

I use Delta 66 with no problems in VV3, and upgraded now to VV5. I installed the 5.0b update, and I have still little dropours. I am recording only one stereo track with input monitoring, only one reverb plugin in chain. The dropouts comming only when i start to record (hard drive activity), when i omly monitoring effected input (record pause) never! I had the same problem in VV4, I didn't use it for work. VV3 is 100% stable. I will make some compares with other ASIO based softwares (Nuendo, Wavelab, Sonar), and I have an Audiomedia III. card out of use, I will try it with the new XP ASIO drivers. Perhaps I will by the new cheap EMU 0404 whith ASIO support for testing.
Greetings, Tibor from Hungary.

Hello! Tibor again!
Dropouts still exist in VV5.0b, with Audiomedia III (ASIO driver, input monitoring with reverb) on a different machine. This configuration works fine with Nuendo, no dropouts!? I will test the Midiman Delta 66 machine with Nuendo too. Nice day for everybody.

After reading thru this full thread I am beginning to see the parallel to my own adventure with Vegas. I bought my Layla sound card used from a friend who gave me a cr*ck of Vegas 3 with it. I had a wonderful time with version 3...was totally amazed that I could do what I was doing on a computer! No tape needed. AFter using 3 for a year or so, I decided to go legit and bought version 4. That's when my troubles began. I have gone thru all the same things you all have, and I blamed the trouble on going legit. About that same time I went from a cr*ack of XP to a legitimate copy and began having troubles there too. Never had a snag with the cr*ck copy.

Anyway, it looks like it all adds up to the addition of ASIO as the
cause of all our current noise problems. Of course, we all know that ASIO is the coolest thing and a necessary part of true multitracking like we did with ADATs, i.e. INput MONitor. It never really worked consistently for me in V4, but now in 5, it works every time.

I did a session this week, a 4pc band of 19 yr olds, tracked them all live
using 8 analog Layla inputs and 4 via ADAT lightpipe...I had the whole plethora of problems that you all discuss. Clicks, pops, and the "new to me" DROPOUT. The dropout was a shocker and we didn't catch it til it came time to mix, to late to re-track. But i was able to zoom in and cut out the dead spots, drag the files over to the cut and all was fixed. Pretty amazing that it is possible to do that, even thought it was time consuming.

During this session, I WAS using 5.0a, and halfway thru, went back to 5.0 to cure the pops. Then went to 5.0b to mix. So I'm not really sure what version gave me the dropouts. I need to stick with one version long enough to really check it out. This afternoon, I'm going to format my active drive and start over, leaving off anything not a necessity from my PC. Fire up 5.0b and see what happens. I love to tinker.

that's my mediocre little story. Thank you Doctor, I feel better now, send me the bill.

Hello again! Some interesting results. I tested the dropout problem with two different soundcard ( delta66, Audiomedia III). Both card is working well in Nuendo, with no dropouts (less than 1 second zzz not too often in Vegas 5.0b). I moved the Audiomedia card to different PCI slots, and in the 5. slot of 6, the problem disappeared! I moved the delta card too to the 5. slot, and it works fine too! Different machine, but the same motherboard ASUS TUSL-C. In Windows XP all pci slots are using IRQ9, so what is the difference?
