I have a sample that I am having one hellava time adjusting to fit within my song. Just so you know, I sampled from the Doobie Brothers' Blackwater just part of the vocal where it breaks down and is vocal only (Something about Dixie land, gonna take my sweet momma by the hand....anyways you get the point). I am trying to get it to synch to a straight 4/4 house beat and even though it is dead on in the beginning it seems to fall apart. Is there a VST or some other type plugin that I can use to make this a little less painful, meaning that I can easily stretch the sample without degrading sound quality or making it sound all sonic like. Much apprecitation for any and all tips!!! Please feel free to mail me at protohippy@mixologymusic.com or just post an answer here for everyone!!!! How far apart in tempo is your project and the Doobie Brothers' tune? Do you have Sound Forge? The only thing I can think of is to time stretch the sample so that it fits within your project's tempo. To do that, you may have to stretch only parts of the Doobie Brothers' sample. If you had Sound Forge, this would be an easier process. And be careful with copyrighted material. I want to second that copyright warning. For private use only. Ok. I have another idea. Once the tempo is close you can cut up the vocal. You can do it in sound forge or even acid if you zoom in really close. Learn about "split at curser" to do this. |

Ableton Live is the better tool 4 streching a clip to make it follow each kind of tempo. |

if you have just the vocal(no music whatsoever) use time factory or propellerheads recycle. both are excellent quality. than when the tempo is close but certain words are not quite right, just go to the words that arent quite right and use the offset in acid and align each word. |

I do have a copy of sound forge 7. Umm, but I am not too familiar with it as I am a Wavelab convert (Wavelab just didn't have what I really needed in a functional manner), so I am pretty unfamiliar with Sound Forge, having it less than a week so far. Anyways, as far as tempo goes, it is pretty off, the beat that I have set is at 120 bpm, just straight 120 bpm, It is a breakbeat, electro style if that helps at all. The vocal sample is just for personal use as I would never release this, don't wanna be sued at all......May appear on a demo or something as I am a mix dj. I would love to get this to work as I spent half a day cutting the sample to begin with, the sample tempo is, according to acid, 98.4 bpm. I tried to use SF to stretch it, but I didn't notice any difference. |

That makes sense and I will certainly try your suggestion and let you know how it turns out. |

I would highly suggest checking out Chapter 15 of the Sound Forge manual. In addition to time stretching in Sound Forge, you will have to also ACIDize using its ACID loop creation tools afterwards. Otherwise, ACID will try to guesstimate for you. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |
