Subject:Does Vegas 5 + AP4 = Better Mix?

Can I export mixes from AP4 to Vegas then use my Mackie control mixer?

Can I simply develop mixes in Vegas using same effects and plu-gins as AP4?

I (like many of us) do really well on mixers or software with mixer consoles.
And I love AP4.
Is my only route to render and export?

Yes, unfortunately render and export is the only way. This is what I do and I am wishing there was some easier method. What myself and I'm sure many others would find useful would be some way to save ACID as Vegas or open ACID files in Vegas. Obviously, MIDI tracks would have to be ignored or rendered first since Vegas doesn't have MIDI. But, Vegas is a great editing and mixing program and it's especially helpful for adding live tracks (vocals, drums, etc.) that ACID doesn't do so well.

last_8: Yes, you can do that. Use the "save each track as a separate file" option under File>Render As on ACID's menu bar.

MIDI tracks will be included as long as they're routed to a soft synth of some sort (DLS, VSTi or ReWire).

Vegas is a multitracker. ACID is a looping tool. The only way I could see them interacting together is if Vegas either opened the tracks as ACID loops (which Vegas 5.0 can do but only on a track-by-track basis) or as rendered tracks. (If Vegas projects were opened in ACID, ACID should open tracks at least as One-shots; you don't want ACID to timestretch tracks you intended as otherwise.)
