This happens when trying to start Sound Forge 4.5 and 5.0 demo: Fatal exception 06 at 0028:00000017 (or..01). With either one, the splashscreen comes up; with 5.0 I see the "scanning for audio plugins" just before the crash. Windows 98 with 128Mb RAM. ActiveX 9. I have a slow Pentium with Win95 and only 33Mb which runs 4.5 just fine. |

Chances are you have a COM .dll associated with a piece of hardware that gets enumerated by the DirectX filter mapper (when it shouldn't). You can try to isolate the misbehaving .dll with the DXMan utility avialable at www.analogx.com. J. |

I get the exact same problem when my Sound Forge 6 loads. It crashes when it scans for plug-ins on startup. Sometimes it runs after a few minutes but I cannot load an mp3 nor save in mp3 format. What's more, my windows explorer keeps crashing from the day I installed sound forge 6. My operating system is Win98 pentium 3 198 ram. I had Sound forge 5 installed but I uninstalled and cleared up the registry before I installed Sound Forge 6. But this issue occured with Sound Forge 5 a few times as well. Could the problem be due to remaining Sound Forge 5 files? EDIT: Btw, I installed DX man and I found nothing rellevant, no associated dlls unless they are under a name I cannot recognize. |

Do you have any CD burning software (Roxio engine, etc.) running? |
