Sound Forge . .YES have tried over there too! External Preview?

Hello Friends!

[ Bringing this here . .not a response over on the SF Forum . .. maybe some PAL experienced takers here . .. . ]

Further update on External Preview from Sound Forge7 not happenning in PAL.

Okay, set up Project : Options>Preferences>Video [Tab]>External Monitor Device> OHCI Compliant 1394/DV [Selected]>Properties>External Monitor . . we now get a "Zen-like" statement, "If project format is invalid for DV output, conform to the following:" . . .well I again select "PAL DV" - wise? I think so .. . oh yes I go with the default Sync offset 4 Frames and the Record engage delay (frames) 7 . . .

So .. I do all this and I got to the : File> Properties> General (Tab) . .scan down the General properties and the Video Pixel Aspect is : 0.9091 (NTSC Standard). I go to the same menu and click on "Video" it shows that Pixel aspect ration is 1.0926 PAL DV. .. . Is this a contradiction? NOW, here's the thing. I've set up everything as and for PAL. Reading that this pixel setting is NTSC will this "stop" the flow of Video out to the External Monitor?

Or, what else is happening . . ? Very frustrating . . . .

Oh yes. If I go Control+Shift as a reset to factory settings I CAN get the External Preview to Monitor on that one Factory Set instance of Sound Forge. Save and close that project, reopen and USE the project the "No External Monitor Attached" warning re-appears. I go and reattach it and again it doesn't recognise the External Monitor. Very very weird . . ..

External monitor works on Vegas . .all flavours from version 3 thru' 5 . . . so the connections and card and plugs and stuff are working . . I have the latest version and build of SF7 too.

I would entertain ANY ideas.

TIA

Grazie

I finally found the fiddly solution.

In Sound Frog, (or DVD Arch2.0) first turn off preview.
Go into preferences/video device, and change "conform to the following" to widescreen. Apply. Now change it back to 4:3. Apply
Now you should get a preview.

But you have to do this every time you run Sound Frog or DVD Arch 2.0, or indeed Forge.

Alistair - Sound Frog . .very good . ..

Well, this sounds a diffent "flavour" to what I do .. ie ding thew factory reset thing. Both of us are "kidding" the s/w that it "should" be used for a different video format. There must be a "call out" being made to "ignore" previous settings. Not being a programmer, I really can't suggest anything further.

More to the point, I'm suggesting that this being a PAL-oreintated thing, it would need some heavy HEAVY duty kicking-upstairs at SONY to make a difference.

Mmmmmm . .. "But you have to do this every time you run Sound Frog or DVD Arch 2.0, or indeed Forge." . . .this isn't good.

Yours reflectively,

Grazie:

We are able to repro this problem, and hope to have it fixed in the next Sound Forge 7 update.

Thanks.
