If you're thinking of doing 1) multitracking or b) video, it's a no brainer. I also like making my CD complilations in Vegas. Post this on the Vegas-Audio forum and the gurus there could tell you what you'd be missing out on. Mario |

If you'd like, i'd be happy to send you the software on a CD-R. You can try it out in demo mode all you wish and if you decide to keep it you simply enter your serial number. It's not ACID. It doesn't slice & dice loops or tempo & pitch shift like ACID. It's certainly not a replacement for ACID. However, it does do an incredible number of nifty things that you might enjoy. If you do lots of audio editing you would probably find use for it. One of the big advantages is that you can put more than one media file on a track. It burns Disc-At-Once audio CDs. It can record more than one track simultaneously. And ... of course ... it also edits video. |

> I'm curious to know if I've won something valuable to me In order for us to answer that question you would have to explain to use what’s valuable to you and we'll tell you if Vegas 5 is it. What are you trying to do? Many of us own both so we can steer you in the right direction if you can tell us what you plan to use it for. ~jr |

Since ACID Pro and Vegas (and Sound Forge) were meant to compliment each other, you might want to keep it. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

I don't use ACID but I want to... thats why I'm on this site. Everyone knows Vegas 5 is a serious video editing program and I use it exclusively for video. However, Vegas 5 is also a serious AUDIO ONLY program. I have both pro tools LE and Vegas 5 and I don't need pro tools now that Vegas 5 has automation and surface control support. I do post production on multitrack audio recordings that I do on a couple of Mackie SDR 24 track hard disk recorders. I usually mix 8 to 14 tracks of audio. I use Waves plug ins. That "gets me there" with ease. |

Thanks guys, As for "valuable to me", I've got an Avid/Mojo rig for video and I use an Acid/Cubase/Nuendo/ProTools/WaveLab rig for audio. From what I've heard about Vegas (and Final Cut), I don't think they can be compared to Avid but maybe I'm wrong. I'm not sure but perhaps I could use Vegas on my portable rig. Does it come with a capture card? |

--As for "valuable to me", I've got an Avid/Mojo rig for video and I use an Acid/Cubase/Nuendo/ProTools/WaveLab rig for audio. From what I've heard about Vegas (and Final Cut), I don't think they can be compared to Avid but maybe I'm wrong.-- That's pretty much 100% wrong, at least in my opinion. I have a copy of Xpress DV 3 (which I never bothered to upgrade, if that says anything) that hasn't been touched since I made the move to Vegas. Unless you've been using an Avid for years and years and ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to learn another system (Pro Tools has the same snobbery in the user base that Avid does-- damn you Digidesign!), then there's no reason not to go with Vegas. But then, quite frankly, I think that Final Cut is a better system than Xpress Pro (which I assume you're running with the Mojo)... and that's even overrated. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that FCP does that Vegas won't, as far as video is concerned. And, audio-wise, it's not a choice whatsoever... Vegas mops the floor w/ FCP, Xpress, or whatever else is available at or near that price point. If you put Pro Tools & Xpress together, it would work well (I think they're putting it out under the name Avid Studio, or something like that), provided that they talked to each other, but they currently don't-- at least, as I understand it. I think there's something called the filmmaker's toolkit (or something like that) that they sell for another grand... but it's functionality is still limited, I think. I work with Vegas and a Firewire 410... it cost roughly the same as the filmmaker's toolkit on its own... I've never looked back. I'm not sure but perhaps I could use Vegas on my portable rig. Does it come with a capture card? -- You don't need a capture card for Vegas. Vegas is DV only and works with firewire ports. |

Thanks David, Looks like I'll have to install Vegas to see/hear for myself. |
