Subject:how can i do the professional mixing through acid pro without using any external mixer

i'v been using acid pro since a long time and its the greatest software for i have use for playing samples & loops and create basic chords as well.

what i want to do is i want to finalize all my song in acid pro beacuse i got sick from burning my tracks in cd and take them to studio all the time for mixing to get the professinal sound quality. so i need a simple solution that could give me the studio sound quality through this software or any other software. i also have used the third party plugins for effects but still i am not satisfied.

i got a p4 pc with 512 ram and creative 128 bit sound card and what i need more should i purchase the external mixer or is there any plugin or software available for mixing.if its possible in acid then its very good because its very user friendly.

another thing more i need to know that waving effect which was used in cher's song i believe, how its been created.

You have to ask yourself: What is it that you’re adding in the studio that you’re not getting in ACID? Are there hardware processors for which you don’t have software equivalents? What software is the studio using? Are you taking advantage of busses in ACID for greater control?

If your not happy with the quality of the sound perhaps a better sound card would be the first investment. Creative is not exactly pro gear and they weren’t truly 24bit until they made the Audigy 2 series so if you have anything less than that, getting a better sound card would help (i.e., something from M-Audio, Echo, etc.)

As for the waving effect on Cher’s I Believe, I always assumed that was a vocorder but I never tired to replicate it so I can’t be sure.

You should spend more time using the tools you have. Sometimes limits are a good thing. Yeah you can't beat a kick ass compressor, EQ, Tape machines, or any other type of hardware, but you can still accomplish great things with a computer. Not too long ago Fatboy Slim was doing everything with a sampler and an Atari computer.

Cher's voice was processed with an Autotuner. I don't know if they used the hardware or software version though. Antares makes a great autotune plugin.

The CHER effect that I'm thinking you're refering to is a VOCODER.

to my knowledge, ACID/SOUNDFORGE doesn't have one, but there are plenty of VSTs that you would be able to use with ACID that can do that.

as far as "finalizing" songs. I'm not quick sure what you're talking about.
RENDERING it toa wave and then using SOUNDFORGE's Compressor or Wave Hammer to do some mastering would help.

Otherwise, T-Racks is a VST that you could use. (it's also available as a stand-alone).

Mastering to get that "CD" sound is not an easy process... nor is it an exact science. CD and vinyl mastering professionals have the experience to look at your file's waveform and know exactly what to compress and limit and stuff like that.

Mastering to get that CD quality is something that comes with experience, trail-and-error, and good old hit and miss (sometimes)...

Keep in mind, whether pressing to vinyl or getting them professionally duplicated, there will be a professional audio technician that will master the wave file again... so mastering isn't as important as just getting the actual song how you want it to sound. (i'm sure plenty of people will debate that with me).

One thing that I do, however, is separate some of the individual sound-tracks into busses. so like all of my highs will be on a bus, all of my vocals on a bus, and all of my low-end drums on a bus and all of my mid-to-high end drums on a bus... each bus has a separaate COMPRESSION and/or EQ setting depending on the mix itself and the song and what the needs of the song actually is. That is the closest thing I've come to simulate a multi-band compressor without buying a VST for it.

Good luck.

ooops. I was thinking of the song where she sings "Do you believe if life after love" I know that was an autotuner. I haven't heard "I believe" yet. I guess I should brush up on my Cher trivia.

1.
invest in good moitor speakers like(mackie hr8s,the new event speakers, genlec, krk, and dyna-audio).
2.
get a dececent sound card( creamware, rme, digidesign, etc.)
3.
get waves pluggins,universal audio card,sonictimeworks,sonalkiss.
4.
this is most important find commercial cd's that are close to your mix and

listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen,listen, and compare.

thats my 2 cents.

You can, of course, mix your project through ACID, but you'll probably want to do any final mastering steps (like compression over the overall mix) using an app such as Sound Forge.

Definitely think about a pro-level soundcard or audio interface; Creative's offerings are getting better but other companies like Echo and M-Audio have had a head start for a long time now.

I've heard conflicting reports about Cher's, "Believe." (If I hear that song one more time, I'm going to puke.) I've heard from one side that Autotune was used, but I've also heard it was done using DigiTech's Talker (now discontinued) and then blending normal samples with their Talker counterparts.

I agree with what everybody above said.

Here is a article about the Cher song:

According to an interview with the engineer in SOS mag, the Digitech was what was used. You can achieve similar effects with Autotune, and there are discussions of this all over the web.

Everything ozzborn said! If you don't have a good sound card and accurate monitors, you can't trust what you're hearing.

i get preety good vocals by using about five or six different tracks and compressing and EQing each a little differently and spread them out across the stereo field.

like everyone else said,it's trial and error, what you can do with acid is endless think outside the box.
i also recommend waves plugins(gold bundle and renaissance).they're great.

ACID sounds quite bad if compared with Cubase sx/se 2.0 sound engine...

U could use ACID to easily compose the song and then export the bounce of each track to Cubase sx/se 2.0... (in alternative you can use ACID as rewire slave app directing the audio output to the cubase mixer)

...now you can front the mastering process in a more powerful environment, using the same masternig plugins, but with a more efficient sound engine

Hey, can anyone comment on this fellow's assertion about ACID's sound quality vs. Cubase?

It is subjective at best, so any comments would be no more than an opinion.

As far as the vocal effect for Cher, there was MAD debate in the audio groups for weeks about that. What it finally came down to was Antares Auto-tune, set to being really sensitive to mouse movements, The producers, (and apparently this was shown in a broadcast tv show.) actually slurred her voice with Antares' during the final mixdown. I am not too sure that I understood it all correctly, but it was a Vocoder (Antares Auto-tune). If you have further info on this or on Eiffel 69's "blue" Which came out about the same time with the same effect (That was actually Double Vocoded as one line goes I am blue and I believe I will die, vocoded on top of I am blue and ah boo dee ahh boo dii, mixed together, you get the same results that they got!!!)

Acid does slave to rewire!!! At least Acid Pro 4 does.....I have used it to slave reason and Rebirth, so I know that rewire does work with acid.
