I don't think you get a free upgrade, you gotta pay for it. You do get a discount though (no matter where you are).

No free upgrade that I know of.

The download is definitely NOT free. You are misinformed.

Perhaps he is referring to the free upgrade to Vegas 5 if you bought Vegas 4 between such and such dates?

"Perhaps he is referring to the free upgrade to Vegas 5 if you bought Vegas 4 between such and such dates?"

That could be (although I hadn't read anything about it). We just picked up Macromedia Director MX in December....and, of course very shortly after that Director MX 2004 came out.

We got the free upgrade since we had JUST purchased the previous edition. I thought that was kewl!!

Other than something like that - the 'upgrade' from 4 to 5 is definately NOT free. Until the end of this monther there is a $50 discount. But that is about $149.00 more than free.

There was both a $50 rebate AND a free upgrade to Vegas 5/Vegas 5+DVD for purchases of Vegas in March or April. See this link for full details:

if you download it and call service (if you live in canada anyway) and if you qualify for the free upgrade , they will help you out ...

Having checked this matter out, I find it outrageous. Why this free upgrade offer is for US folks only? I purchased V4+DVDA bundle in March, when I heard the rep. say "the V5 is gonna be available at the end of the year".
What can we do to claim equal treatment?
jmeredith wrote on 5/16/2004, 2:32 PM
I recently purchased both the Sony DRU530 DVD burner and the Plextor 708 burner only to find out that I had purchased them from the "wrong" store and therefore did not qualify for either rebate so I can understand your frustration.

In your case, this doesn't sound like a good way for Sony to expand their customer base... I for one would like to see ALL users, regardless of location receive equal access to promotions, rebates, free upgrades, etc. - that just seems like good business to me. Sony, please rethink this one.

P.S. I am in the states but still don't think this is really a fair policy.

Thank you for your suppot. I wonder if somebody from Sony has read this thread.

You seem to be having trouble with the language. The SHIPPING on the upgrade is FREE to US residents, not the software.
peteros wrote on 5/16/2004, 3:26 PM
Shall we present Sony with a petition?
jmeredith wrote on 5/16/2004, 3:27 PM
Neither of us is having trouble with the language billyboy - you seem to be having trouble reading jetdv's post where he includes the link to the upgrade.

Clicking on the link and reading the text will provide you with the following sentence among other things "In addition, any users who purchased version 4.0 of Vegas or Vegas + DVD software between March 1, 2004 and April 30, 2004 will be entitled to a free upgrade to version 5.0!"
bStro wrote on 5/16/2004, 3:37 PM
Sorry, but you are Incorrect, sir.

If you go to the URL posted by jetdv, you'll find a line that says "For more information on a FREE upgrade to Vegas 5.0 click here." followed by one that says "For more information on a FREE upgrade to Vegas + DVD 5.0 click here". Follow either of those links, and you'll get a form to enter your e-mail address and serial number:

http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/rebates/vegasdvd.asp

The offer's been mentioned on these forums numerous times. A free UPGRADE is being offered to anyone who purchased Vegas or Vegas+DVD between March , 20041 and May 1, 2004. After entering your info, however, you get this screen (screencapped and obscured 'cause you can only get this screen by entering your info). At the bottom, it states that the offer is only good in the USA.

This is the offer (NOT the free shipping, NOT the $50 rebate) that Peter was referring to, as he clearly stated and jetdv clearly linked to.

Exactly. I admit I'm not a native speaker of English, but it is YOU who is having trouble with the language in this very case, BillyBoy. Shame on YOU!

I got a free upgrade to V5/DVDA2. I go the box version, which actually DID come in the box. It was a free upgrade since I bought Vegas4/DVDA1 3 weeks earlier.

I only found out about it by reading these forums. There was no word from Sony when I made the purchase.

I think it has to do with the fact that Sony is a wolrdwide comglomerate and the division in each country tends to be a different corporation. That is SonyUSA and SonyCanada are different corporations owned by SonyInc. Or something like that.
