I'm havning a big problem and I'm hoping someone can help In point form, here's the deal. I recorded at another studio engineer didn't write down tempo's He burnt the songs to cd--stereo drums, bass, and click I'm trying to set up my sessions in acid Using the beat mapper on the click track beat maper is giving me weird results like 140.965 bpm Once files are placed in song, they stay in sync wih each other, but go out of sinc with acid (they start in syns, but then everything drifts) I've played with the tempo and set it from 140.965 to 140, no change Why are these files not staying in time with acid? Please help me somone this is driving me mad!!! |

If tempo is even a tenth off, you're eventually going to get drift. If you know the absolute tempo you recorded at, use that as a reference when using the Beatmapper wizard. The wizard allows you to adjust the tempo yourself if you feel it's off. HTH, Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

I guess I must be a tenth off.....but how do I get this right??? I've got the songs almost lined up, some better than others, but none of them are right on the money....and unfortunatly, I don't know the orininal tempo....but there must be a way to determine the absolute value...no? I'm trying to get the tempo from a click track, so it should be pretty straight forward....do you or anyone else know of other software that analizes a file and automatically determines tempos? By the way, Iacobus, who are you? How come you're so knowledgable? You've helped me so many times, so let me just say thanks again, this forum needs you....:-) |

Hi again Matthew, Prepare for a long post. Do you have Sound Forge (full or the lighter "Screenblast" version)? It has tools to help gauge tempo. If you don't, there's a simple formula to use. Take just one complete measure out of your take and use this formula: 240 / (number of seconds in sample) = (tempo) So, if your one complete measure was exactly 2 seconds long: 240 / 2 = 120 BPM Note this is assuming there are 4 beats to every measure; the formula is different for other number of beats in a measure. You're probably wondering, How do I gauge the exact number of seconds? If you only have ACID, change the track to a One-shot by going into the track's properties (right-click the track in the track list and select "Properties") and under the General tab, choose "One-Shot" as the track type. Then set the Loop Region over an area of the sample you know to be an exact measure. (You might want to turn off snapping (F8 toggles) and turn on loop playback (using Q).) Once you do that, note the beginning and ending times via the time display in the upper left. Write them down. (Use 5 on your keyboard's numpad to toggle between the mark in and mark out points of the Loop Region.) At that point, simply subtract the beginning time from the ending time to get your number of seconds. Use the formula above to get the tempo. Don't worry about changing the track into a One-shot. You can go back into the track properties and turn it back into a Beatmapped track. (You can also re-Beatmap via the Stretch tab under the same properties dialog.) Who am I? I'm just basically a nobody helping out here as I have these past few years. I've known ACID since its second incarnation (version 2.0). I'm only knowledgeable probably because I want to know what options I have available to me when composing projects. I like sharing that knowledge with the community here too, as it helps anyone willing to look for it. I also kind of like being challenged with a problem a user may have, as it helps me get to know the program better. I feel quite blessed in being able to manifest what I have in my head into a real project using this software. Musicians and the like didn't have this kind of technology years ago. I feel so honored to at least reciprocate in kind by helping out others into this brave new world. And you're welcome! Whew! OK, I don't think I forgot anything. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |
