Subject:Loop question

I'm new to the Acid software and have downloaded Acid Express. My question is that I only want to use Acid to import drum loops and to be able to change the tempo (maybe drastically) without changing the pitch and to create a cd of these drum patterns/songs. Express lets you change the tempo but the sometimes it makes sound like there are two snare drum hits intstead of one for example. I think I've read that the audio stretch function is not enabled on Express. Will Screenblast Acid do this for me without messing up the audio?

I don’t believe the audio stretch function is disabled in Express, there are just limits on how far you can stretch something. I have ACID Pro 4 and if I take a drum track that was recorded at 130 or 140 and slow it down to 70 you are going to hear the natural echo in the studio as discreet sounds because you’ve separated them from the initial sound by slowing it down too much. This is unavoidable and not anything special about Express. You just can’t get that drastic.

Adding to what JohnnyRoy mentioned, the ability to work with stretch properties exists only in ACID Pro. You can minimize artifacts when drastic timestretching is done in this manner, but you can't eliminate it totally no matter what app is used. It's just the nature of digital audio.

I think that's what I was talking about md. The stretch properties weren't available in Express. So, if I'm just importing drum patterns off cd's, is it really worth getting Screenblast Acid, or is Express close enough in being able to adjust the tempo without too much extra noise? Assuming, of course as you both mentioned that I not be too drastic with the tempo change. Thanks to you both!

Actually, I believe XPress 4.0 and SB ACID 4.0 share the same engine in terms of audio quality. Their differences pretty much lie in functionality. ACID Pro separates itself from the other versions due to its stretch marker feature, which almost always produces a better sounding loop.

So you wouldn't really gain anything in terms of audio quality by going for Screeblast ACID 4.0 (but you'd get a bunch of features not available otherwise, like unlimted tracks and track bouncing).
