Subject:C drive is full...Need to move Acid app to anthoer drive...HOW??

Good morning all.....I have a problem I'm hoping someone can help me out with. I tried to open up an acid project of mine yesterday and I got an error that read something like this..."you do not have enough space(memory) on your c drive to open this project. please delete some files to free up space" My computer system is a setup with 5 drives. One drive is the a: drive of course. One drive is the cd rom drive or the d: drive. And the others are the c:, e:, and f: drives. I don't want to just go in and start deleting things that I might need later. Since I have plenty of room on my e and f drives, I would like to move my Acid application over to one of those drives. My problem is that i don't know how to do it. I don't want to lose any of my projects already completed....AND I have plenty!!! Can anyone tell me the safest way in doing this? Is it a matter of just simply moving the Acid Folder contents over to the e or f drive? I really don't want to(and can't afford to)lose anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

Antonio

Don't move any applications if you can avoid it. The only way to do this right is to uninstall it and reinstall it on the other drive. Not only is that way more trouble than it's worth, but the applications themselves tend to be small so it wouldn't help much.

What you want to move is the projects and sound files. These are HUGE and can simply be moved to other drives without any problems. The only thing you may have to do is tell ACID where to find the files the next time you open the project. It may tell you it can't fine the files and you can "specify an alternate location", tell it the drive/directory where you moved the files, and ACID will happily find them and go on with the music-making.

Just as a side note, from the way you phrased your question it sounds like you've been dumping all your files into the ACID program directory. While this works, it makes housekeeping jobs rather tough. Normally it's suggested that you create a new directory for each project and keep all files associated with that project in that directory. This would also make it very easy for you to move the whole directory to another drive with a simple drag in the explorer window.

I'm sorry to come off clueless like this, but I just really want to do it right and not lose my stuff!!!!! thanks again....

Anything that's yours (i.e., any ACD project files) more than likely will not get deleted and will remain after you uninstall.

It's probably worth mentioning that backing up from time to time should be part of your routine. Definitely consider picking up a CD-RW or DVD+/-RW drive and have it installed if you don't know how to do it yourself.

Organization is important as Chienworks mentioned. Centralize all your projects in one location on a folder-by-folder basis. (For example, create a folder named, "ACID Projects," and make a folder for each project you have in this folder.)
