Hello Everybody, For the moment I am not having any problems with Acid. I hope it stays that way :-) My question is for anyone who is familiar with the Roland XP 80 and Acid or has tried something similar. I use Acid and Sonar for midi recording. I like Acid because it is quick and easy to use, unless it crashes. When that happens I move on to Sonar. The reason I am currently using Acid again is because it doesn't use Instrument Definitions. I am trying to make and record a Performance from my XP 80. I haven't been able to create an Instrument Definition for Sonar. Plus the Defs. that are downloadable on the net are not right for the XP 80 and I have given up. The roland XP 80 in Patch mode will only transmit on one midi channel. So what I do is record a midi track and then convert to audio and then repeat the process when necessary. The Roland in Performance mode can transmit up to 16 channels. The Performances are made up of Patches and from what I understand you can seperate the channels when recording so that each Patch of the Performace is assigned its own midi channel. That would mean that you would have up to 16 channels that could be played individually at the same time without converting to audio to record an additional midi track. My question is can this be done in ACID? I have read some of the recent posts and have come away with the impression the ACID might not be the best program for doing something like this. It is not the end of the world I can always convert to audio and go that way. If somebody understands how to do this I would appriciate any input you might have. It could be that this can't be done in ACID. I know it can be done in Sonar but I have that Insrtument Def. problem and I am sick of wasting my time with it. Thanks to all who reply, Duke |

Hi Duke I asked (sent an e-mail) one of the guys I work with (Billy Townes) to answer this for you. He sends me midi tracks from the XP-80 and they open fine in Acid 4.0f George Ware |

That would be great. I am not quite sure if what I am looking to do can be done in ACID. It would be nice to know one way or the other. If it can be done I would like to be able to take full advantage of ACID's capabilities. The Owner's Manual didn't shead much light on this matter and I just thought maybe someone out in cyberland might have a thought on this. I have no problems recording midi tracks one at a time. I am looking to break up a Performance into 16 channels. It could very well be that the way I am going about this is the only way that it can be done. Regards, Duke |
