Subject:Sound Forge 7.0a Crashes When Saving as MP3

Hi all, I submitted a support request about this, but haven't heard anything back yet. I am trying to save audio files as MP3, 16 kbps, 11.025 kHZ, but every time I do this, the program crashes. This is the primary audio format that I need to export to, so at the moment Sound Forge 7 is pretty useless to me. The program crashes at other random times, but saving or rendering as MP3 always crashes. The only message that I get is that the program has crashed; I do not get a stack dump or other debug info. I am running SF 7.0a on a Win2k machine, and have uninstalled and reinstalled several times without any luck. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try? Thanks. --mpd |

I am using SF Studio 6 and I would assume the codec it uses is pretty much the same as the one in SF7. I cannot even choose 16 kbps, 11,025Hz. The lowest I can choose is 20kbps, 11,025 Hz and it works fine. I would guess that the codec does not support your chosen parameters and throws an exception and SF does not handle the exception. You could try if looking at the event viewer to see if there are any relevant messages. |

You can get 16kbs if you check the "mono" check box under the custom settings. I tried this on my win2k machine and did not get a crash using Sound Forge 7.0a. What version of the .MP3 codec are you using? You can find this under the "About" box when you goto save as .MP3. Mine is "Version 2.0 build 1649" |

mpd, Can you give some more details on how you are setting up a custom template for your MP3 render? I am unable to repro this crash. The only way I can get a 16 Kbps bitrate is by setting the radio button to Mono, just like Rednroll mentioned. Rendering to that format works fine for me. |
