I use Vegas4 and am at home sick, and for something to do I am learning ACID. For what and by who is this utility used in the real world?

Thanks

I use it for my music. I've put out two releases (just put the 2nd out last week finally...) as well as on a couple compilations and a split with another artist along with collaborations with some others. I use loops, MIDI sequences, etc..

As a Vegas 4 user, you should find it quite useful in creating royalty free music beds for you video productions. The key is in finding a good set of loops to compose from. The default loops are mostly hip-hop and really sell the product short (IMHO). Try downloading some of the sample loops from the Cinematic & Sound Beds category and you’ll see what I mean.

I’m a Vegas 5+DVD user myself and while I plan to use ACID for scoring for video, I’m also a musician (keyboards) and so I use it to compose my own music as well.

BTW, Get Well Soon. (its no fun being sick at home, I’d rather be well at home) ;-)

I use acid for commercial projects. Acid is my main app.

Acid is my main app too.
I create all of my drums from one shots.
I draw and or play my midi tracks to hardware keys and softsynths.
Once I'm done with the tracks I fly them into Vegas 5 or Pro-Tools TDM 6.4
to track vocals or acoustic instruments.
I love Acid 4.0f and I check here every day to see of any word on Acid 5.

Good luck and hope you get well soon.

What people use ACID? Why, me, of course! ;o)

ACID is mainly a loop creation tool, but has many other uses besides that (as others have mentioned here). Music beds, multimedia production, you name it. If you need music (or even just audio ambience) for your project, ACID, like Vegas and Sound Forge, will provide.

I use Acid for commercial releases (for warner music).

So consider it's quite a serious program. Nor i'd go broke without it...

Music creation and pre-production. ACID Pro is very able in terms of production using dx and "wrapped" (converted from VST to DX) VSTfx plugins, but other applications can perform this task better, particularly if you use a hardware DSP engine, such as TC Powercore or Yamaha DSP Factory. I also use ACID's VSTi softsynth capability to create synth sounds and loops, although most loops I use end up being chopped into lotsa pieces and shuffled about, again in ACID.

I've never used Vegas myself, but I'm told it's very similar to ACID in terms of use, so you should be able to get straight in there!

I hope you enjoy using it as much as I do!

I use Acid for making my own 'DJ Mixes', writing tunes that are primarily sample based (my own projects) and for scoring / sound design for video games (which is my full time job).

I also use it as a multitracker for my rock band and programming drum loops from one shots (I also use Reason for programming loops too). I use Acid 4 and Reason 2.5 Rewired together ALL the time..!

I love using Acid to sync sounds to movies that are used in our games, we use Vegas and Nuendo here too, but I'm very quick with Acid so it's what I use most of the time!!

My $.02:

You say 'the real world', but it sounds like you mean 'the commercial world'.

Those two ain't the same thing, by a long shot!

I am real. I use Acid.

I use Vegas, but never tried Acid. I used Vegas recently to assemble a beat from various sounds I'd recorded. What about Acid would have made that process better?
I ask because I recently recorded a drummer doing one-shots for my own use later to assemble drum patterns, but if Acid would make that easier, I'd like to check it out.

Vegas, up until version 5.0, took a "what you hear is what you get" approach (being a true multitracker) with any recording.

ACID's compliment to Vegas would be its time stretching feature.

For example, if you made a 120 BPM drum rhythm using One-shots in ACID, you could easily change the tempo just by changing the project's tempo.
