No, sorry, at least not totally. Because vocals share frequency ranges with other instruments (like guitar) in a stereo mixdown, you also risk removing frequencies they share. (If you didn't know, audio works on the concept of frequencies. For example, 440 Hz is A4.) The end result could be described as muddy or thin (depending on the situation). The only surefire way to "remove" vocals (or vice versa) is to have the separate tracks available for the project before mixdown. actually it is possible, but only in a few rare cases...one of them is that if the vocals are on the right channel and the instruments on the left you can cut out one of the channels using soundforge by copying one of the channels (either left or right) and then pasting it at the end, making it a region and extracting it |

Of course, in that case, they are already separated, or in fact, never mixed to begin with. More commas anyone? ;) |

Search the web for analog x's vocal remover (freeware direct x or winamp plug in). Results vary. |

I’ve used the Analog X Vocal Remover. It only works for files where the vocals are equally mixed in each channel to make them appear to be center. (which is true in a lot of cases). Here is the explanation from their site: AnalogX Vocal Remover works on the same principles that the hardware removers do - that in most instances vocals are equally mixed in both channels, and can identified and therefore removed by simply changing the phase on one channel by 180 degrees. While this won't remove vocals in all instances, it does work in many cases, It’s probably worth a try because it’s free. The worst it will do I make your music sound too thin because of the phase cancellation on too much of the signal. Good luck, ~jr |

man i hate to be pessimistic, but that analog x doesn't really work to well. It's pretty much impossible to seperate vocals because of the frequencies that are shred, even if you manage to pull out the vocal frequencies it'll make the music sound like crap. there are phase cancellation problems, too. but,hey by all means try it,it may do something you like. peace |

Just out of interest shadow, why do you need to remove vocals ? Might some original music - or a cover version by you - do the job just as well ? |

install the plug in(may have to reboot)then boot acid and acid should scan for plugins and pick it up(if it's direct x,if it's vst you could install vst wrapper to use it) anyway then check "fx" on the track youwant to use it on and the plugin should be there. |
