Occasionally. It doesn't freeze the PC for me, but it does freeze Vegas. It does this in both Vegas 4 and 5. Also happens occasionally when adding or removing a plugin on the fly.

Makes me remember to hit "save" more often...

I'll try and repro this..

has to me all the time in acid.
i'll solo to render a vsti track, unsolo and the cpu jumps to 100% causing the app to crash.

the only work around i've found is to disable the plugs within the chain ,unsolo or unmute your tracks, and then re-enable each plugin one by one.

coolout are you running RME cards?

I've been wanting the UAD-1 plugs for awhile, and I commend all of you having these problems for being so patient with your "work arounds".

But after working as Todd Rundgren's assistant for many years, If I had the UAD-1 and these bugs happened, the "work around" I learned from him -would be to carefully remove the card from the PCI slot and then SMASH IT TO SMITHERENES!!!!!

well you get used to workarounds when youre running computers for audio. I am seriously losing patience with UA though

"coolout are you running RME cards?"

no i'm running terratec.

i tend to put things in perspective...

my audio computer, sound card, and uad cost about the same as my 12-bit sampler (mono w/ no effects or eq) and my atari st did 10 years ago. a midi-only sequencer was around $300.

now which setup would you rather have?

i think having to learn workarounds and deal with code limitations is part of the tradeoff in having so much power and one i'll gladly except.

you didn't think the power AND stability of a hardware recorder or a protools TDM system would be this cheap did you?

there has to be a catch. find out what it is and go make some records.

Customers often have a hard time putting things into perspective. They expect to pay LESS now to make an album than 20 years ago, but dont want to put up with the lack of auto input or constant crashing

Does anyone know why Mackie & Universal Audio got a divorce?

Could it be that... uhhh, never mind...
pwppch wrote on 4/29/2004, 8:51 AM
Yes. Mackie and UA are no longer together.

It didn't seem to be a smooth relationship. UA took over their own sales and authorization responsibilities. The new UA web-based authorization and plug-in tracking is amazing and works great. Best I've seen.

sorry guys, bullet proof here on my system with 2 UAD-1 cards. I can solo and mute like crazy and things are looking good.

bgc wrote on 4/30/2004, 10:07 AM
Oh yeah, that's still there! That's why I got a second card!
I'm not seeing the mute/solo/hang stuff.
