Subject:Vegas 5/DVDA2 breaks AcidPro4 AC3

Long story short, fresh install of WinXP, pruchased Vegas+DVD 5. Installed Acid Pro 4.0f, installed 5.1 plugin, which worked previously with Vegas+DVD 4.

No AC3 save as option.....

Installed Vegas 5, DVDA2. AC3 works fine in those apps. Tried Acid 4 again, Now AC3 is listed as an option to save as. Click AC3, click save, and I am greeted with the Purchase 5.1 plugin dialog, requestng a key, or a purchase.

How do I get the 5.1 plugin to work? I tried uninstalling, clearing the registry of SF/SONY keys, reinstalling in different order (first Vegas/DVD then Acid Pro) I can't get Acid to create AC3 files.

I have run the migration tools from both the Sonic Foundry and the Sony program groups - that didn't help.

I tried reinstalling Acid Pro, telling it to use the SONY/SHARED PLUGINS folder. When I do that, ACID crashes with an exception when trying to use AC3.

Anyone know how to get this working?

I'm going to post this in all the relevant forums.

One thing's for sure, based on the similar problems that occured with Sound Forge 7, don't change the default installation paths.

My system, since installing Vegas 5+DVD, correctly accesses the 5.1 plugin pack. I didn't do anything special, but I did install all of the apps that still go in the Sonic Foundry directory first, then the newer ones (Forge 7, Vegas+DVD).

You might want to search the Sound Forge forum (or knowledge base) for similar problems and solutions; it'll probably work out to be something similar.

Thanks. I had deleted all SF/SONY apps and directories and registry keys because I originally installed ACID Pro using the SONY folder, and Acid would crash when trying to access AC3.

I then installed ACID4 to the SONIC FOUNDRY default paths, and it doesn't work. It's asking for a key.

Another update, MPEG render no longer works from within ACID as well. Again, I am prompted to purchase the plug-in. What the heck is going on?

If you bought the 5.1 plugin pack, you have to enter your serial number and register it. Try starting the AC-3 DVD Burner app and see if you get the same result. If you register that, it should spill over into the Acid plugin.

I had the 5.1 plugin when I purchased Vegas+DVD4. It allowed encoding to AC3, but when I tried to use the Burn DVD Audio disc, it prompted me to download the plugin, which I did, and the AC3 DVD burner worked, no registration or serial number needed.

Since I got Vegas+DVD5, I uninstalled the version 4 software and installed 5, now I can't use either the AC3 encoding, AC3 dvd burner, or include video in my Acid projects. It prompts me to buy the plugin packs (both 5.1 surround and MPEG2 encoder plugins).

The solution, for the time being was to reinstall DVD Architect 1 to get my AC3 encoding back in Acid Pro 4. Video is back as well, although it's using the older, version 1 Sony/Main Concept emcoder, whereas DVDA2 uses the version2 encoder.

I guess i'll just wait for Sony to reply back to me, which they seem to do pretty slowly, contrary to many other persons' statements in these forums.

Have a look here:

X:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Utilities\Migration Tools

where X is your main installation drive.

Be sure to read the readme html doc to see if this applies to you.

If you continue to have problems, contact our tech support directly.

Thanks, but I said I already ran the migration tools, from both the SONY and SoFO directories. I wrote to support on the 24th, I am waiting for a reply. AC3 and Video will not work in Acid Pro 4 unless I leave DVD Architect 1 installed.

I don't feel I should have to keep an older version of DVDA just to save my ACID files in AC3 or 5.1 surround.

Hopefully you have heard from tech support by now. Because of the changes in DVDA 2 (Sony) ACID (Sonic Foundry) will not be able to see AC-3. ACID's migration tool was out prior to DVDA 2, which is why it doesn't work for you.

Tech support will get you set up with an activation code for your AC-3 plug-in.

Hope that helps,
Jenn

Well, 5 days later, I heard back from tech support. You know what their response was?

They told me I need to register the plugins! How on earth am I supposed to register a plugin that wont run until I enter a serial number?

I am LIVID! I cannot see how anyone actually praises tech support. They've not been at all helpful, or timely with either of the three requests for help I submitted.
