Nope. There really isn't any useful way to do this. Some folks suggest the "invert stereo pair" method, sometimes augmented with adjusting various frequency ranges, but the result is usually more mush than music. It's pretty much the audio equivalent of trying to convert lead into gold. |

If it's the original recording company that is doing it, then they go back to the original multi-track master which has the separate tracks before they are mixed together and remix using only the tracks they want for the new version. Unless you can get the recording studio to give you the original multitrack master (and don't even bother asking, you can't afford it), you're out of luck. |

Do a search in this forum for "remove vocal" and you'll find hundreds of posts from very knowledgeable pros in the business who will tell you the same thing ... it can't be done usably well. Obviously what you've heard is something different happening. Maybe your friends had access to "remix" materials. They might have obtained versions of the songs that didn't have the vocals mixed in. These are sometimes available for this specific purpose and can only be made by the original recording studio. If you hear this happening on a daily basis then what you are hearing isn't the result of starting with finished songs being separated into independant vocal and music tracks. |

KroniK, did you see my post in the ACID forum? I tried explaining to you that "separating" or "removing" vocals involves the process of isolating certain frequencies, which other instruments may (and usually do) share. It's like trying to separate eggs you've beaten into a cake mix. (Mmm...cake.) There isn't any way you're going to get those eggs back in their entirety. You can come close depending on the situation, but nowhere near perfection. HTH, Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

I heard V-RAP is secretly recruiting, maybe if you get on the right distribution list you can become a member and finally know how to do it. |

This is copied and pasted from the FAQ - brought to you by the people who are the brains behind this software. "Can I remove vocals from a song? No, this cannot be done." ...but now, what I want to know is, like, if I have a really cool song that has bad lyrics, can I like remove the lyrics, re-write them, and put them back into the song WITH THE SAME SINGERS VOICE??? ....I heard this could be done. |

"This is copied and pasted from the FAQ - brought to you by the people who are the brains behind this software. " "Can I remove vocals from a song? No, this cannot be done." Obviously, someone at Sony has a microchip planted in there right buttock and knows better than to disobey the V-RAP rules not to disclose this information. |

"Oh great! Give him secret infomation but don't tell me how to record the little piano when I play it with my mouse in Sound Forge." Unfortunately, Beethovan has passed away many years ago, and that little secret went to the grave with him. Thus, why there has not been a Piano player as highly regarded as the master since then. We're still waiting on regenerative genetics science research to take what's left of his DNA and bring him back to life. Until that breakthrough discovery is made, we may never have the answer to that question. But there's still hope. |

Well, DAMN! DNA Shmee-N-A! There's a zillion other apps. that do this. I've seen this done every day. Some I don't like the looks of cuz they're cheezy looking and others are too expensive but If Sony can't add this feature I'm going to have to NEVER buy another Sony app. or piece of hardware again! Being able to play and record a little MIDI piano with my mouse is ESSENTIAL to my work-flow! I'm pissed! My Trinitron's going in the pond RIGHT NOW! MJ |

Dynamic Noise Amplification is already available in SF7 via the NR2 plug. Its not hard to remove everything BUT the noise, then normalise the result. I use it all the time to remove unwanted voices from my recordings of wind noise. |
