Subject:Acid 3.0f/g no longer functions after XP upgrade

After XP upgrade, Acid 3.0 program will not start. Win error message occurs. Operating system thinks that the "software is not functioning correctly". On the assumption that reinstalling the software would correct the problem, I tried to uninstall Acid 3.0 but the uninstall routine does not recognize old ACID.msi file. Therefore, it won't uninstall. Incidentally, none of my Sonic Foundry software will run correctly, including soundforge and Vegas 3.0. But I haven't tried to uninstall/reinstall those yet. Currently all of my countless hours of musical work are useless and I'm totally dead in the water. |

Too late now but its pretty much common knowledge that you never perform an "in place" upgrade of Windows. It is always much better to backup everything and format your hard drive and do a clean install. I hate to say this, but this is only the beginning of your problems. There will be more. If it’s not too late, you might consider a format and start fresh. I installed XP 3 times before I got a stable system and the last one was a reformat. I have my system partitioned with just the operating system on the C: drive and all my applications and data on my D: drive so that I can reformat at any time and not loose any data. All I have to do is re-install the applications. (which you have to do anyway now). It’s something to consider before you go any further. ~jr |

You may need to wipe your hard drive clean and to a fresh, clean install of XP and then all programs. Maybe someone else has a better idea. |

You might just have to reformat and reinstall everything as Johnny and DKeenum mentioned. I would suggest it regardless. XP is a totally different monster vs. 9x/Me (if you were upgrading from either OS). When I upgraded to XP from 98 SE, I simply did an upgrade just because I wanted to check out the new features. I planned to format and start anew later on (which I did). As always, backup only your own created documents and projects before formatting. ACID uses ACD files; Vegas uses VEG files.
