Subject:Can LFA be used in library music?

If you use a bunch of acid loops(bought from Sony) to make library music and then sell it to others to use as music tracks for their works have you violated the terms about the LFA not being used for loop libraries? I'm not talking about single loops but a compete song with drums, bass, guitar etc. No solo'ed work. But the final end product would be sold as library music for multimedia producers to use in their productions.

This really doesn't effect me, but today I received as a "freebie" for filling out a survey some library music tracks and one of the tracks is basically one of the Jade Hill Rock Pop Guitar loops with a drum track. These loops are being sold as library music for Poser artists. To be honest I'm not really sure it's a problem, there isn't much difference between writing a song using Acid loops and selling it to someone making a film, and writing a song using Acid and selling it as library music. But the license agreement does have that line about loop libraries. I'm curious if that means Acid loops can't be used to produce library music. Anyone know what Sony's take on this is?

If I'm hearing you correctly what they're doing is legal. If they make a complete composition from Sony loops to sell it's OK. If they sell the loops individually we're talking another ballgame altogether.

You may be right. Here's the line from the license agreement that makes me unsure:

"You are free to use the LFA in your own original compositions without restriction. Neither the LFA nor any portion thereof may be resold or redistributed as loops, except to the extent permitted under U.S. copyright law. "

In general I've always felt that library music was the same as loops(many Acid loops are full pieces, especially some of the loops for multimedia). So I've read this as you couldn't use Acid loops to make loops or library music for others. But I'll admit it isn't really clear to me.

I believe what the license is stating is that you can't sell the individual loops contained in the package. Say if you had LOOP1.WAV, LOOP2.WAV and LOOP3.WAV in the package, you could not individually sell those 3 seperate loops.

Now, if you combined those loops into a sepearte peice of music, or a new loop, you should be able to sell the new loop without violating the license. At least this is how I interpret it.
