Greets all, I just got my new computer recently, and I'm having this problem with Acid Pro 4 crashing with an "access violation" each time I try to record MIDI. I'm running Windows XP on an Athlon 2600, Leadtek nForce2 MoBo with onboard nVidia Soundstorm and ASIO drivers. I tried changing the drivers from ASIO to DirectX in Acid's audio options, as well as the nVidia DSL synthesizer to Microsoft's synth in the control panel to no avail. I had no problem on my old Pentium III 733 MHz and C-Media soundcard. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance |

Are there any other soundcard drivers you can try? Can you also try other video drivers as well? Can you record digital audio OK? Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

I just downloaded the latest audio drivers from nVidia, which, allegedly, include a fix for Acid Pro 4, but the same thing still happens. What a joke. I tried two different video drivers, but I don't what effect this would have. Recording audio works fine. I don't know, I guess the only solution would be getting a new soundcard. |

In addition to trying other video drivers, try reducing or turning off video acceleration to see if that helps any. Video accounts for the majority of causes of computer problems, even if not outwardly video-related. But since just about everything you see on your monitor goes through your video card... Hmm...have you tried the WDM/Windows Wave Classic driver model instead of ASIO? (I know WDM isn't that great for MIDI, but I'd like to see if it helps any.) I tried changing to WDM in Acid Pro 4 but it still crashes. Do you think there's a possibility of the ACPI causing problems? I read at Steinberg's Knowledge Base that this can cause a lot of problems for audio applications |

I'd probably recommend disabling ACPI as a last resort, especially if this is a newer system. Does the Soundstorm have an IRQ all by itself? Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

I've already tried disabling ACPI, and Windows wouldn't load, safe mode wouldn't work. The only thing that worked was the "load windows with last working settings" or something. System restore wouldn't work. I had to remove absolutely everything nVidia from the system, and re-install. And suddenly, I can record MIDI ??? :) Anyways, here's all the IRQ info. Is this acceptable? IRQ 0 System timer IRQ 1 Filter Device that needs filtering IRQ 3 Communications Port (COM2) IRQ 4 Communications Port (COM1) IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System IRQ 10 NVIDIA nForce PCI System Management IRQ 12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse IRQ 13 Numeric data processor IRQ 14 Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller IRQ 15 Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller IRQ 16 CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device IRQ 18 Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller IRQ 19 Intel(R) 536EP V.92 Modem IRQ 19 NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 IRQ 20 Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller IRQ 20 NVIDIA NForce 2(tm) SPP/IGP ATA Controller IRQ 21 Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller IRQ 21 NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) MCP Audio Processing Unit (Dolby(R) Digital) IRQ 21 OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller IRQ 22 Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller IRQ 22 NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio Codec Interface The status of all of these is "OK" |

Apparently, your audio interface is sharing resources with both USB and FireWire. You should be OK, as you're not having problems in recording digital audio (and now MIDI). Could be that something got corrupted in the process and was rectified by reinstallation. If you're not using your COM ports (used for dial-up modems) or your PS/2 mouse port (most new mice nowadays use USB instead of PS/2), try disabling those via your system's BIOS and free up a few IRQ's. Thanks a lot, I'll try that. I'll see if I can disable FireWire as well, as I'm not using it either. |
