Subject:Excruciatingly slow to preview loops

Ever since I switched to my new DAW, Acid 4 is so slow previewing loops from Sonic Foundry Loop disks. Sometimes the program crashes while loading a preview loop. On my old P II 400MHz computer, loops loaded extremely fast. Aside from this problem the DAW with Vegas, SF, Acid & CD Arch works great all the time.

Does anyone know what's up with this Acid problem?

(Also on this DAW, Windows Media Player is slow switching from track to track when playing an audio CD. My office Dell has much better Media Player performance. I'm using a Plextor CD burner/reader.)

Is newer firmware available for the Plextor? It almost sounds like it's the drive causing the problem. (Do tasks like ripping a track into ACID work fine?)
