I occasionally have a need to change the tempo of a song or its pitch in order to make it more suitable to a soloist or a choir. Can any of the Sony products provide a high quality tempo or pitch change? Thank you David |

Any type of digital manipulation can produce artifacts no matter what app we're talking about, especially if changing tempo, but it can be definitely close to what you need. Sound Forge (the full version), does include such tools like pitch shifting and time stretching. The "lite" Screenblast version doesn't have pitch shifting and its time stretching feature isn't quite as featured as the full version's. Thank you. Are you aware of any other software solutions that will change tempo (mostly speeding up) that will provide a quality output? I have a DJ application called Traktor which is on my laptop and it does a creditable job. The problem is that I have to record the result via my PC sound card (Indigo DJ). If there is a program that will capture and record the audio as it is playing from Traktor, that would be great. Are you aware of any such software that will record what is being "played"? David |

<<Are you aware of any other software solutions that will change tempo (mostly speeding up) that will provide a quality output?>> Yes, Waves SoundShifter. It is the very best I have ever tested for this. Go there: http://www.waves.com/ It is included in the Transform Bundle and in the Diamond Bundle. The text below was copied from their homepage: "Waves SoundShifter is for anyone who wants to shift pitch or shift time and the duration of audio tracks. SoundShifter is a NEW processor that enables the manipulation of Time and Pitch while preserving the punch, groove and transients. SoundShifter is unmatched for clarity, timing accuracy, and a lack of artifacts and distortion" You can get a fully operational demo (lasts about a month) to test for free... JTelles |

You can alter the pitch and speed by changing the Sample Rate under File>Properties>Format with minimal side effects. However both are changed like a vari-speed control on a analog tape machine. |

You're welcome. :o) Actually, if you have the right hardware and software, you can record straight into an app like Sound Forge while it's playing in Traktor using the soundcard/audio interface's software mixer as recording input. For example, I'm able to select my Monitor Mixer (which is the software mixer to my Audiophile 2496) as recording input in Sound Forge's record dialog. I'm basically free to start playing audio in another app like ACID Pro or Windows Media Player and have Sound Forge capture it. Note that every soundcard or audio interface doesn't do this, but most should be able to. HTH, Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |
