Hi all

I'm new to the forum. Can anyone tell me how to open an MP2 128 kbps file? Sound Forge gives me this error message:
"The file format plugin for the specified format was not properly initialized."

Any body help?

Are you sure you want to open a MP2 and not a MP3?

MP3s work OK in SF7, but I got a message after working on a few files that I needed to register the mp3-codec (or something) with Sony.
This was accomplished automatically on this internet-connected PC.
I had to perform the registration both from SF and Vegas.

thanks for the reply

Yes, alas, it is MP2. I have a new Marantz digital recorder and used it last night with a mixer and mics setup. The factory set default for the unit when recording stereo line in is MP2 128kbps.

I just found out how to change that setting to MP3, but unfortunately, I have a couple hrs of MP2 that I still need to deal with HELP!!!

I don't hear 'MP2' very often, but Sound Forge will support MPEG-2 audio and video if you purchase the additional MainConcept MPEG plug-in.

If it's not really MPEG-2 and you can find and install a compatible acm codec, then Sound Forge would be able to use that. Otherwise, there's probably some shareware out there that will be adequate for a one-off conversion.

You could also just re-record analog playback from the Marantz into Sound Forge. There may be some loss of quality from the additional conversions, but you can't beat the price.
