Should I be encoding my MPG2 for DVD with audio, or render the audio separately as ac-3? |

If you are going to use DVDA as your authoring program, you'll want to render the audio seperately. The other 2 authoring programs I've used also wanted the audio as a seperate file. |

well that's interesting, because I have Ulead's DVD workshop 2.0 and when I try to open the .ac3 file I rendered in Vegas, it says it can't open it. So I checked the specs on DVDWS2 and it says that it can have a dolby digital ac3 file as an input...Any ideas why? My original question, however, was about the difference between the two formats and a higher % compatibility for customers. Should I be using and mpg2 and ac3 or just the mpg2 with the audio stream in it? They sounded the same to me when I was using DVD Architect. Any input? |

AC-3 produces higher quality audio, and less disc space. Anymore I render a video compliant Architect stream, and a AC-3 file to go with it. You can realy max the audio channels out with it, especially since you can add the LFE channel in it. Rogue One |

>>>...I have Ulead's DVD workshop 2.0 and when I try to open the .ac3 file I rendered in Vegas, it says it can't open it.<<< If you look down below in the DVDA thread for a topic called "Copy protection" and read it you may find out an answer to that. I too had the same issue and was told the demo does not allow for import of AC3 audio, but in my case it would list AC3 as an option, preview it (play fine when you hit the the little preview button) but when you clicked on "ok" to import the audio into the project DVDWS 2 crashed. I was told there was an updated DEMO available that fixed the AC3 crashing problem so I downloaded it and sure enough it fixes it - now you really can't import AC3 audio at all, just like it says. So if you try to import an AC3 file, Vegas rendered or not, it will tell you it is not a valid format. I know it is pointless really but I thought I should mention it in case you are using the demo version. If you are *not* using the demo version than maybe my suspicions were right, that DVDWS 2 is a bit buggy. when it comes to AC3. |

I only use AC3 as it greatly reduces th amount of space required on the DVD. |

Also, for NTSC DVD you must use either PCM or PAL. NTSC does not support MPG audio. |

Vegas with the Dolby 5.1 encoder can create an ac3 but Vegas cannot edit or otherwise import am ac3 audio file. |
