Does anyone know of an ACID 4 compatible VST soft synth that just plays normal instrument sounds.

Sampletank, Plugsound, Edirol (Orchestral, Super Quartet, Hyper Canvas, Virtual Sound Canvas). These are all compatible with Acid, provided you use a DXi wrapper like FXpansion. Actually, Sampletank 2 has a DXi component,
and excellent sounds.

If all you want is sample playback, why not use the DLS synth in ACID? If you don't like the sound set, there are others available.

If you want a VSTi sampler, the NI samplers are very good. You should also have a look at MOTU's MACH5. It is very good.

I believe AWave can translate Akai to DLS, along with many other formats.
