I've had this problem for a while and it just gets worse.
When I try to record, the computer just freezes up and stops working. I've tried a whole bunch of things, from naming the track something else to changing the recording location. At first it just happened once in a while, and now it's done it every time. When it happens, I don't get an error message-just an annoying constant sound.
I'm using ACID 4.0f, a Mia soundcard with the latest driver, and have 256 ram. I forgot my processor speed and the other specs, but i don't think the computer's hardware is the problem.
What is wrong with it?

Did you try other driver models? If you use Windows Classic, try ASIO. (Doesn't Echo make its own driver model for its series of soundcards? Try that as well.)

Might want to also try completely uninstalling and reinstalling ACID. (Also uninstall/reinstall your soundcard's drivers.)

What's your video card?

Thanks for the reply!

It seems to do it only when using the ASIO.
I have no idea what my video card is. (i'm at work right now)
I've re-installed multiple times.

You're welcome!

Don't reinstall unless you've uninstalled first (if that's the case).

ASIO can be touchy. If you don't do MIDI all that much, Windows Classic can make a good alternative.

You can also try turning off the Monitor meters in the Record window just to troubleshoot. Also try reducing video acceleration a notch or two or even try turning if off completely.

If its any consolation - the same happens to me. While recording the system freezes and I get a loud sound. I then need to reset. I don't think its your sound card - I use a Wami Rack 192L and get the same problem. I've just cleaned out my system and defragmented and so far it has'nt happened , but I won't hold my breath!

i also have this problem. i'm using an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 with the 1007 drivers in ASIO mode, with ACID 4.0f. the weird thing is when i first start to record, it will let me record for several hours without problems. however, once it has locked up my pc the periods between locking up get shorter and shorter.

when i record in Sound Forge while letting ACID play in the background i have no problems. so, that likely means ACID has a problem with my ASIO drivers. reading this thread i see ACID seems to have problems with different kinds of soundcards using ASIO, which leads me to believe the problem is not just the soundcard's drivers, but ACID itself also.

i'l try using the Windows Classic drivers in ACID, since i hardly use MIDI anyway. hopefully that will serve as a workaround until the problem is fixed.

I rarely have a problem recording in ACID Pro 4.0f with the MiaMIDI's ASIO drivers, especially since upgrading to Windows XP.

As I said, ASIO can be a finicky thing depending on the config.

Are there any error messages?

Has anyone tried uninstalling/reinstalling ACID? Be sure to also do any maintenance on your system as well.
