Hi, The most important thing I use SoundForge for is mixing to stereo and mastering my original music I have recorded on my Roland VS-880EX 8 track DAW. I use RCA-type RDAC interface to a Audiophile 2496 sound card. Why is it that even though the output of the recorder is set peaking at a max of -0.1 dB, SoundForge sees it as a much lower signal of -12dB. Isn't there input level setting somewhere in Sound forge I can adjust? I've tried different settings in the Audophile 2496, but can never get anything higher than that -12dB even if I turn everything up to the maximum. What gives???? Thanks, Dan Barnes |

Weird. I can always get my signals pretty hot via the Audiophile's RCA's in Sound Forge. What version of Sound Forge? Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

Just a thought, but this sounded like a typical Balanced/Unbalanced level problem to me. I don't have the audiophile 24/96 card but it says on their website it has "+4dBu/-10dBV pad conrols" (that isn't a mispelling that is a direct quote from their website :-o) . Anyways, I would check to see if you have the +4dBu(ie balanced signal setting) on. The difference in level between balanced and unbalanced signals is roughly 10 to 12 dB. If you're using the RCA connectors on the VS-880 then this is an unbalanced signal and you might have the balanced signal pad turned on for your sound card. Another thing I noticed is that the 2496 has a s/pdif in, and I believe the VS-880 has a digital s/pdif out. Why not use this connection? Not only would you get a better sounding recording, but the levels showing on the VS-880 would be identical as to what you should see on the Sound Forge meters. Unless the 24/96 has a digital attenuator. |

Rednroll, I goofed and typed RDAC and I meant S/PDIF. That is, I AM going digital into the soundcard. However, I monkeyed around in the control panel for the sound card and I'm not sure what I did (dang it) but it is working much louder now. As soon as it did, I saved the setting, so I'm good to go now. Thanks everybody. Dan |
