Subject:SF can't see CD drives Posted by: ilevit Date:3/19/2004 12:33:31 PM I tried to rip a few files off a cd yesterday and I realized that Sound Forge does not "see" either of my CD drives (reader or burner). When I went to check my preferences under CD, my drives were not listed there either. I'm still able to import a file via the File menu, but I cannot rip from a CD. If anyone is aware of how to fix this, please let me know. Also, I tried that Adaptec fix that was suggested in the support area and that did not work. Thanks in advance. Igor

The SoundForge people never heard of it before and were no help. Not even reinstalling the program helped. I had to depend of Roxio for ripping. A few months later I got a new computer and was able to rip with Sound Forge.
Subject:RE: SF can't see CD drives Reply by: msterlin Date:3/21/2004 9:53:55 AM Here are a few things to try: . From device manager, right click on the cd drive and choose uninstall. Shutdown and reboot and let windows re-install the driver. It might have to do with aspi layer conflicts, so do all the following and then re-install SF: 1. From services, disable IMAPI CD-ROM Burning COM Plugin. Set it to manual and reboot. Unless you want to use Windows Media Player to burn CDs you dont need it. 2. Uninstall all cd burning apps (Nero, Roxio, etc), especially the packet writing software (InCD, etc). Then see this link: http://www.theeldergeek.com/restore_missing_cd_or_dvd_drive.htm. Some of the packet writers install filter drivers that cause problems. I've had this problem before and the registry fix solved the problem. Nero has a RegistryChecker tool on their website that supposedly helps resolve aspi layer conflicts - might want to try that. 3. Now re-install SF. If all is well, then you can re-install the burning apps.
Subject:RE: SF can't see CD drives Reply by: MJhig Date:3/21/2004 1:43:37 PM Boot to Safe Mode (usually by holding Ctl or F8 during POST "Power On Self Test"). Go to Device Manager, are there multiple listings of your CD-ROM or listings of CD-ROMs that don't exist on your machine? If so Remove/uninstall them depending on your OS. Actually you can remove/uninstall all listed under CD-ROM and Windows will repopulate after restart with no ill affects. These multiple/non-existent entries only show in "Safe Mode". You may try uninstalling/re-installing Sound Forge then. MJ
