Hello, i'll get right to the point. I have a Johnson J-station going through my computer so i can hear the guitar through my speakers. Everytime i try to record with Acid, i either get no sound coming out of the speakers.. but it records properly, or i get good sound from my speakers but it records at some other frequency so when i play it back, all i get is scratchy sounds in the rthym of what i was playing. I have tried just about everything i can to get it right, from switching up the input/output from my j-station to my comp, to messing around with the setting of my sound card, but nothing helps. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

What's your soundcard? And how are you connecting the J-Station to the soundcard?

I am not exactly sure of the soundcard name, but i know it isnt very good. I have been meaning to try testing the set-up on my friend computer because he does have a good sound card... i just havnt gotten around to it. I connect the j-station with a midi-to-usb cable. I tried using a midi-to-serial port on my sound card.. but it sounded pretty bad.

?

The J-Station uses its MIDI I/O primarily for controlling MIDI functions like communicating with the editor software, not for recording digital audio.

The 1/4" outs and the S/PDIF out are used for recording audio. Do you have either of these connected to your soundcard?

oh, lol, yeah.. i wasnt thinking.... i use a male 1/8inch-to-male 1/4inch cord to go from the computer to the j-station headphone jack, but i also have a female 1/4 to-two male 1/4 so i can connect it to both right and left output, so depending on my setup, like i said.. i either get sound out of the speakers, or it records... yeah.

Could be bad cables (judging from the scratching, static-like recordings you're getting). A 1/8" minijack connection is notoriously noisy too.

I forgot to ask: Are you using ACID Pro? If so, try going to the Audio tab under Options>Preferences and selecting a specific driver model like "Windows Classic Wave".

Once you do that, you should be able to select a specific hardware input for recording under the Record dialog window.

Also, monitoring while recording would all be dependent upon the soundcard being used; lesser, generic soundcards usually cannot, which may be why you cannot hear what's being recorded until after the fact.

Have you tried your friend's setup yet?
