Newbie HEADACHE!!!

Argh... after spending 2 hours trying to figure this thing out, I am so confused. I have a lot of questions, but can't seem to find the answer anywhere!

1. First, what are the blue triangles on the corners of the clips? Some are light blue and dark blue - what's the difference?

2. How come everytime I try to apply an effect, I get a blank timeline window. Like for instance, I try to apply text, when I drag the text generator text to the background, and try to "edit generated media" I get nothing. In the help/manual, it says you can edit the text with the placement, preferences tabs, mine shows nothing! This is same with the color correction effect. I don't get the two circles where you can set the gamma, saturation, brightness, etc! It just gives me a blank timeline on the bottom! Please help!

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about:

Do you have the cursor postioned over the effected area on the timeline?

What I do is I highlighted the area of the clips then right click, and I even tried doing a single clip and it still gives me that blank editing on the bottom.

Either undock the fx window by gripping and dragging the narrow vertical bar along the left edge of the window or grab the bottom edge of the main window below the transport bar and push it up until you can see the full fx window.

Thanks, I think I fixed the problem. I had to drag the window outside to an external window to show ALL the options... but why is this?

Could it be that I am editing in 800x600x32 resolution? Should I switch to a higher resolution?

Vegas allows users to customize their desktop to suit the available real estate (number of monitors) and their workflow. I use 1280 x 1024 and spread the desktop over two screens.

800x600 is a fairly small amount of real estate.

Huh?

Your screen size is 800 pixels by 600 pixels correct? That does not allow too much to be displayed on screen at any one time.

I have a 17 LCD with a resolution of 1280 pixels by 1024 pixels and I still find it too small, I am contsantly dragging windows out of the way of each other.

Shortly I will move to using two monitors, but I have to wait until I finish my current project, because I think I need to modify my desk to make more room.

I normally use 1600 x 1200 on my laptop, but recently had to reduce to 800 x 600 for a data projector display - it felt like working inside a strait jacket - one quarter of the area I'm used to.

As long as your eyesight's up to it, I'd set it as big as it'll go.

Regarding the blue corners, these simply show where the event begins and ends - if you drag an edge beyond the original recorded clip, the triangle turns beige (is that your light blue?) to show the original clip's boundaries.
