Hi it's me again (the french who bothers) :)

I'm sure Everyone here knows that Acid is a transparent sequencer, and therefore, able to make all styles and kind of music...

Well I thought I'll never get a sound that warm with a computer but I finally did it (with a lot of plugin acknoledgement, and years of sequencing training on Acid).

I've just used a compressor on the bass (PSP Mixbass, on my Squier), Waves REqs (almost everywhere), some reverbs/slight delays from Sony™ on my Variax and a slight Lounge Lizard...

Here's the result : MP3 (1,15 Mo) (0:50 secs)

Feedback is very welcomed - tell me if i'm not that far from Maxwell's Embrya ambiance :'(

Damn, when I was doing that track, I was beging God to give us multitrack recording for 5.0 (I know mD, the debate is closed)

Tnx !

I'll give you the .acd-zip when finished ! It's a simple track, but the more simple it is, the better sound you get.

sounds great - I've been getting good results with the shared compressor plug ins from sound forge & acid as well. Have you tried multiple buss compression? It works great . Route the desired track(s) thru the buss with the desired compression & rate - you can get a great "in your face/punchy" sound this way without overloading your master bus - its ok if it red lines on the individual buss though, you can often get a pleasing harmonic distortion this way- It's cool to run multiple tracks thru multiple busses at different compression ratios & then leave your master buss compression free as sometimes I find that master buss compression can suck the life out of track- I'll have to check out your plug ins, as I've been looking for some new compressors.

Mmm nice! I have a Variax too - love that guitar (despite the neck!). What model are you playing for the Jazz octaves? Through a Pod or something?

Regards

>>>Mortalengines

>Have you tried multiple buss compression ?

With the experience i've learned how not to abuse compressors... This track is just ultra-maximized. I thought it was enough to emulate 70's groove :)

>I find that master buss compression can suck the life out of track
Yeah usually it cuts the kicks' bottom and emphasize the bass :(. Bad technic.

>I'll have to check out your plug ins
Get PSP Mix Pack and PSP VintageWarmer (well-known bundle). Also, take a very good care of your Eqs. Sometimes you don't need anything but an Eq. And remember that sometimes you don't need anything at all too (when you're lucky) ! Ow, and try the DiscoDSP Thriller. You'll maybe get the sound you're talking about with this one !

For the rythmic guitar, Just turn the knob down to R-Billy, with the white "cursor" at the fourth position.
And for the jazzy octaves i've used Chime @ 2nd position. Err no Pod though, just and Eq and a slight Waves Rverb. I'm thinking about passing it thought a virtual amp, what do you think ?
(this is the guitar used in "Too Hot" by Kool and the Gang, or by Fat Larry's Band in Looking for love)

That was fantastic, Isaac!

I should mention that whatever the case, Vegas will give you what you want for multitracking, as that's its forte (besides video).

Wow, tnx that's kind especially from ya ;).

Argh Vegas ? I can't leave all my virutal instruments there staring at me like "why did you leave us ? WHY ?".

I was raised in Acid. I mean, I just can't change sequencer. My production speed depends on it you know... It's awful for me to admit that i'm dependant.

You know, I have the same feeling about acid. I left my old mac for acid, and I'm sticking with it!

You're welcome!

Actually, what I meant is to use ACID in conjunction with Vegas (since each app concentrates on a specific function and are meant to be modular with each other).

You could, for example, take a simple music bed you made in ACID, render it out and then bring that into Vegas, where you'll have full multitracking features available.

This process frustates musician's direct-live inspiration

Tnx ! Well for the percussions i'm still thinking about it... I need a quite discrete percussion sequence, but which percussions, I don't have a clue yet. Maybe another riff of Congas would be good. I'll tell you when i'll found out

I thought that the percussion was just fine- I like thick percussion but, at the appropriate times, minimal percussion is cooler (think motown & the beatles- something that ACTUALY SOUNDS) like a drum kit. If you stretch it to the full version maybe figure out how to play with the beat & change it a little for that human feel.
