Hello All,

I would like to know how to vary the eq in soundforge 7.0 over time. Basically as I would on a mixer if I were doing it live. Selecting a range or specific frequencies and shifting them say from -64db to 0db over a few seconds. Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Thanks for all of your help.

FX's automation. To the upper right is a "help", menu. Open that up and look under FX's automation and it should give you everything you're looking for.

Thanks for the help Rednroll!

However, I still can't seem to find a fade control to do a sweep over time. Any ideas?

Sorry,
I think I'm a little confused about the terminology you're using. You mention fade and sweep. Fade adjustment usually has to do with automating the gain/volume and sweep usually means you're changing the frequency. So I'm not exactly sure what you're asking to do. Also, sometimes I get confused as to the differences between Vegas and Sound Forge and what each comes with, when I give explanations, since I have both and their plugins appear in my plugins folders. So I'm not sure if Sound Forge comes bundled with an automatible EQ plugin, but Vegas does come with a Track EQ which is automatible. You could use the Vegas, track EQ in Sound Forge and be able to automate the frequency and gain if that's what you're asking. Also within Sound Forge, you can hit the "V" key, and this will open the automatible volume envelope, if you're trying to change volume points. If you have Vegas, I could further explain, but if not then it's kind of a wash if Sound Forge doesn't come with an automatible EQ. Go into the plugin chainer of Sound Forge, and go into the "Automatible" folder and see if there's an Automatible EQ, if you're trying to do a sweep of the frequencies or just automate a particular frequencies cut/boost.

You need to an EQ that supports automation.

Sound Forge does not come with any - as I can see.

If you really want to do sophisticated automation, try Ozone 3 - it is a dream for effects linked to the timeline.

Thanks rednroll and jorgensen,

I downloaded the demo of ozone 3, but I still have not figured how to apply my eq changes accross the timeline, again essentially bringing in the effect over a specified portion of a track. if anyone knows of any tutorials available, i would be eternally grateful.

Thanks,

D.

Give further details of what you are trying to accomplish as I asked above. There may be other ways to accomplish what you're trying to do even without automation

Sound Forge isn't capable of this as it doesn't lock to the timeline like a sequencer does... ACID Pro or Vegas is capable of it. You'd need to automate an EQ notch in ACID/Vegas and draw in an envelope to control the movement of the frequency centrepoint. Once that's done, you can render the track to apply the effect permanently. It's much easier with a good desk or outboard parametric EQ.
