Own a copy of Jimmy Buffett Don't Stop the Carnival. Have tried to copy the album with Nero and Roxio CD burn drag and drop software and open with SoundForge...without success. There are no wave, mp3 or any other form of recognizable sound files. The disk contains *.nba files, dll files, one mov file and one exe file. The nba files are for example...menuchange.nba, cdplay.nba, btnrunr.nba. Have tried all Sound Forums and google search with no results. What are nba files and how is this album made? The only way to copy the album is disk to disk...there is no way to copy single song titles as they do not exist. Thought maybe someone could shed some light on this...rather interesting way to produce a CD. |

CD's standard audio format is .cda. If there are no .cda files on the CD and you can't (in Sound Forge), File > Extract audio from CD... then you may have to play it in real-time, use a "What U Hear" type channel in your soundcard's mixer and record in Sound Forge. MJ |

My first guess would be that this is an enhanced cd, although i've never heard of a .nba extension. "Normal" enhanced cds contain both audio and data tracks and a regular cd player will skip the data tracks. Sounds like this one does not contain any audio tracks and audio is actually stored in some proprietary format which is decrypted by code in the exe/dlls on the disk. Does it play in a regular cd player or only on the computer? I found one site with file extension info that said .nba could be an extension used by HyperStudio multimedia authoring program (www.hyperstudio.com). Perhaps the disc was authored using this program. Amazon.com does list the cd as an enhanced cd. Anyway, the only way to record individual songs would be as mjhig said, by playing it and recording what you hear. I've never heard of a cd like this before, and i couldnt resist looking into it a bit. |

Thanks to all. I was just stumped by the nba extension. I have been to ever CD forum...Roxio, Nero, AfterDawn without anyone knowing a thing about the nba files. You guys are the first to give me a clue as to how the CD was made. If it was proprietary and evidently it is controlled by the exe and dll files...I don't know why other labels do not do the same thing as it would prevent anyone to copy single songs and probably would help the studios . I managed to copy the disk so I could archive my orignal by copying disk to disk...but that is the extent of it. Thanks again. I am curious and will look into the HyperStudio program only to satify that curiosity. Thanks again. |
