When I record a MIDI track it only records 4 bars of it. The counter moves like it's recording the entire take, then when I hit STOP recording only 4 bars of the take is there. I've upgraded to 4.0f and everything. BTW: MIDI recording in Nuendo on the same PC works fine. Am I missing something?

TIA,
Scott

Does MIDI data actually get recorded?

Can we have a little more info of your setup? (MIDI controller, MIDI interface, etc.)

I've had this problem also, although it appears randomly. I suspect a it's a bug. I think it may have to do with the recording file name being reused, but I don't have the time to try to recreate bugs like this, nor the occasional times that MIDI simply doesn't get recorded at all! I'm talking: going through setting up the recording and clicking start, having everything appear to be working fine, and when I click stop, there is no file on the hard drive, no MIDI track on the timeline, no indication anywhere that I just did anything. This is NOT a fluke or a system thing. This is a bug. Although I don't know what causes it to happen ( it happens occasionally), I have it occurring on two completely seperate and different systems. All of this is with version 4.0f. I don't usually bother posting anything here because I've already been told by Sony that no further updates will be made to version 4.

Same here. My system is pretty solid (not 100%, but pretty close) when I only use the audio features of Acid. But the minute I start using MIDI, all Hell breaks loose. Recording MIDI and nothing shows up when I hit stop (same problem listed above--yup, it's a bug); playing MIDI tracks back and either the first note sounds and nothing else, or no sound whatsoever; recording audio into a project that has MIDI tracks already on it and my system just crashes COMPLETELY, and the list goes on and on. I've been a die-hard Acid fan for a few years, but this kind of BS just makes me want to look at other audio apps unless 5.0 comes out SOON, and fixes this. Ironically enough, my computer system is a SONY Vaio! Come on Sony, PLEASE step up the old R & D and give us 5.0. It's not just the new features I'm dying for, its making the old features actually work right. It has been over 18 months since 4.0 came out, and a lot of competing software is passing Acid by. I'm going to stick with Acid for a little while longer and just live with the problems, but my patience can only last so long--especially when I have projects I want to get done and crashes are completely blindsiding my work. Sorry for the long rant--Acid crashed (again) on me yesterday in the middle of a remix, and I'm still pissed off about it. BTW, my old version of Cubase works just fine on the same setup, and all of my system drivers are up-to-date. Thanks for listening, and have a great day.

Peace.

Have any of you contacted Sony to see what they say? (Support>Email Support in the menu above.)

I hardly touch MIDI, but I've really had no problems when I do use it. (There's just a minor issue where I have to jiggle the pitch bend wheel a bit on the MIDI controller I'm using before recording anything, but other than that it's fine.)

Wow - how annoying this bug is: As I mentioned in my earlier post in this thread, there are times when I record a MIDI track, then click STOP only to find no track recorded and no track added to the timeline. There was MIDI coming in and everything was set correctly, and recordings were being done in a new folder. I am almost certain this has something to do with the track naming, as this time I changed the recorded track name from "Record take 30" to "Record Track 1". I simply changed the number (not the whole name). The MIDI did not get recorded on the first take. I then proceded to try recording this track another 5 times and nothing recorded! I finally had to close the project and open a new ACID project to start over, then it worked - BUT in this case I left the record track name as the default that ACID gave me.

This is NOT a system dependant problem. I have seen it on my main system (Athlon 1700, Win2000) and on my laptop (Celeron, XP Home).

Has anyone else experienced this or am I the only one using MIDI??

Those of you who are having trouble...

What MIDI device are you using to record and how do you have the device connected to your computer?

I've used two completely different setups: One was an Alesis Quadrasynth going into my MIDI port which I built and have used extensively for years. The other setup was recording MIDI data from a foot controller through an M-Audio Quattro. The same exact error occurred in both setups.

I understand the need to know more about the problem, but I can tell you it's not device or system related. It has to do with the naming of the recorded tracks and how ACID deals with them.

Also, most of the time I have no problems! It's only when I have to rename the recorded track for whatever reason that the problem occurs.

Hope this helps!

This problem is a definate problem! I am trying to record MIDI and only get 3 or 4 bars every time. I've started new ACID projects and click on record - MIDI- and no matter what the length being recorded, it stops short. The file actually stopped recorded as verified by viewing the MIDI file. I've changed record locations and file names and nothing helps.

BUT, I discovered how to make it happen consistently. It only happens when I record a held note or notes that are not routed through to anything. If they are routed to a soft-synth, then it seems to work fine. Likewise, if I record a track not routed to anything, but have many notes being turned off and on throughout, then it records fine. It's almost as if ACID decides that after a certain time, if there are no events, it stops recording to the file.

I hope someone at Sony can help with this, and the other bug in this thread. From what I've been told by Sony, this version that I paid for a year and a half ago will never work! I'll have to pay for the next version to get a (hopefully) working version. I guess that's just the way it works at some companies.
