Subject:VSTi and midi recording problems

Hi, Can't seem to do basic midi recording in Acid 4.0f without a crash. When I use a VSTI it's even more severe; it crashes with the message: "Exception ...in module acid40k.dll..." Crashes occur using various VSTi's (I just got Atmosphere which works great in FL), (Plugsound Free, Space Synthesizer, etc.) Also,sometimes after trying to render a project to a .wav, I get the error message, the program shuts down, and then a redX box appears with something about a Rewire dll error., even when I've just done basic loop production using no audio or midi recording at all. Any ideas?? System: P4 Windows XP home 2.6GHZ 1.5Gig RAM Radeon 128MB video card US-428 soundcard/mixer Wishlist: Add more multi-track recording (midi and audio) features/stability to version 5. Oh yeah,...fix the bugs! (virtually none in 3.0....4.0 leaves much to be desired in the midi and VSTi department) |

Did you update your video and audio interface drivers to the latest supported versions? Have you tried completely uninstalling and then reinstalling ACID Pro 4.0? (Be sure to try to install just the update, which also acts as the full version. (Keep your serial key handy to unlock it.) A quick note: ACID was not meant to be a multitracker like Vegas is. Since the apps were meant to be modular with each other, it'd be redundant for ACID to have such a feature that Vegas already has. Did you catch a couple posts of mine not so long ago? I mentioned that if you have large amounts of RAM (512 MB or more), you should use the ECC kind, as more errors can happen the more memory you have. I haven't tried the 4.0f reinstall yet; will do that. Yes, I have Vegas 3.0 to do multi tracking on, and while it's great for that, it doesn't support VSTi's...so I'm left to do that on Acid. -All the drivers for the US-428 and Radeon 9200 are updated -I had 512 RAM, then added 1Gig (1.5 total), still have same problems (not sure what you mean by 'EEC kind..') I did try one thing: I removed the Rewire dll, and no longer get the redX box that used to appear after a crash, but last night, while trying extremely basic midi recording using multiple channels from my Korg X3, and the Plugsound Free soft synth, ended up with the program crashing after @ 5 minutes. I think I'll try the reinstall, and if I still get get the same results will try to contact tech support at Sony Foundry. Thanks for the tip! Tommy |

At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, do you mean that EEC Ram is a kind you buy (like SDR, DDR,... double/single sided, etc.? Is there a function I can perform in Windows to maximize Ram performance? Thanks again |

ECC is, indeed, built into the RAM itself, so you'd have to buy it and replace the standard RAM you have now. Also note that ECC RAM costs more too. You can try any of the memory tweaks available at MusicXP.net. HTH, Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |
