DVD burn problem

desherm wrote on 2/24/2004, 7:17 AM
I have a menu-based project all ready to be burned.
Looks great in preview. Everything functions as it should.
But when I try to pepare/burn on DVDA and I get to the "finish" part a warning appears.
It reads: "an error occurred while writing a file. The reason for the error could not be detirmined."
Maybe you have a suggestion. Something obvious I'm overlooking.

Many thanks,

Dan

Describe your computer system.

Did you try to just "prepare" the DVD, or prepare/burn? Try just the "prepare" portion to see which step is causing the problem.

Does the DVD drive work with other programs?

How big is your project?

Sony Vaio 128 MB Ram, 60 GB, P-4
DVD Drive works OK with other programs.
Project is menu based, three videos 12, 5 and 3 minutes, activated by buttons on opening page.
Am about to try your suggestion to prepare only.

Also Dave, received this message at end of last failed burn.
"An illegal request was received.
Unknon additional sense 21 02"

Satus 00040200
Command 2a 00 00 00 ee eO 00 00 02 00
sense o5 21 02

Whatever that means.

Thanks

I can't comment on the Sony Vaio, although it seems like you've certainly got enough CPU power. 128MB isn't exactly what I'd call overflowing with RAM, but I don't think that should cause the problem. Unfortunately, I haven't the slightest idea what those error messages mean.

I always "Prepare" and then "Burn" in separate steps and it's worked well for me.

If you can prepare, use a different program to burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files into the DVD. I know quite lots of folks do that. Something to do with ASPI drivers, or some such techo-no excuse like that.

If it's the burn that's the problem, try reducing the write speed.

You may find that the DVD recorder is not a supported in DVDA. One option would be to preapre the files using DVDA and then use Nero to burn the DVD, this way you can confirm that the problem is with DVDA.

Did as you suggested Dave---and prepare went fine.
But the same result upon burning.
Will adjust speed and try again.

Many thanks

I'm in need of a new system.
Of that there is no doubt.
How is it i go about reducing the write speed?
Pardon my lack of experience here.

Thanks

Wow that almost reads like a Haiku! Write speed should be a drop-down somewhere on the write screen.

I'm watching this thread because I'm having the same problem. I'm using a Panasonic SW-9571-CYY DVD-R/RAM drive and there's a fix for the full version of DVD Architect that specifically addresses writing issues with a similar vintage Matsushita DVD drive. However, there is no such upgrade for my DVD-Architect Studio 2.0. :-(

In the past I've used the very buggy Pinnacle Studio 8 to author DVDs and written them with Nero Express. Nero doesn't know what to do with the VIDEO_TS folder from DVD Architect Studio. Is there something wrong there?
