Hi there - I'm using Acid 4.0f and am noticing quite a bit of return hiss on the recorded tracks (from my line in). Any ideas how to fix this, or is it just a result of my older Creative ISA card (full duplex tho!) Thanx. |

inherent nature of your card probably. do you have sound forge? if so, use the noise reduction plug-in. it works wonders. there is a really good hiss removal utility in it. if no sound forge, do a search for a plug-in effect called de-hisser or something. there are a ton out there. -marc |

I think I need a new card - I might just swap this ISA one with my other which is a Soundblaster Live! value. I just don't want to deal with this and filter it all the time ... Thanks. |

The Live! is pretty noisy too; I used to have one myself. If it's a low noise floor that you want, you will have to pay a little more. (Did you see my response to your other post?) You can find the Audiophile for about $150 street; the MiaMIDI about $200. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |

I did see that mD - thanks! Just trying to go for a little lower cost alternative, but I guess all my audio needs (line out, dig out, speaker out etc.) will be a lot better off with a newer card! (I would love an M-Audio, or better yet - a top notch Creative card ..) Thanks :) |

Creative's offerings are getting better, but they've a ways to go in terms of support. In terms of driver performance, I still think anything from M-Audio or Echo will leave Creative in the dust. One thing I can also say for the other cards I listed is that they're sleek and lean. There's no bloatware involved with dozens of "features" or little apps you'll probably never use. Creative is not for pro-level audio work. They make great cards for gaming, movies, etc., but not audio work. |

That's very subjective and will depend on what you want/need in a card. I suggested either the Audiophile 2496 or the MiaMIDI because they're amongst the most inexpensive ways to get into the pro-level cards. Either one would dutifully serve you well. The sound quality of these cards is so striking when compared to something like the Live!, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. I'm sure others can chime in on other choices. I should note that cards like the MiaMIDI and the Audiophile were not meant for gaming, much like CAD video cards weren't meant for games. They expressly serve a singular purpose. So if you're into computer games, you can keep your existing soundcard installed, as most systems can chug along quite happily with more than one soundcard installed.
