Does anyone know how to remove a high frequency hiss/"ringing" from the background of a recording?

Try Process / EQ. The g raphic EQ will let you cut down certain frequencies.

If the noise is very constant then SONY's NoiseReduction would probably do better, but it's an expensive add-on.

Don't forget the good ol' Paragraphic and Parametric EQ's, they're more preset friendly and each has its specific uses. I use them for hiss removal more than the general EQ, when I can't get Noise Reduction to cooperate.
