Dear Sony, I've bought the Sound Forge 7.0 upgrade. Please provide me with a Windows 98SE patch .... or I will ask for a refund and I will buy "Wave Lab Mastering Edition" and forget Sound Forge forever. It's this simple. It's NOT that I am behind the times ... I've been a full time Engineer for 20 years now, with world wide credits and awards. My Windows 98SE is working fine and I know what I want from an operating system. Pro Tools will even work with Windows 98 SE ??????? I've read all the pro's and con's ... this is my offer. Russ, I'm going to be brutally honest. Many companies' DAW apps are heading in the XP/2000-only direction, not just Sony's. What if you picked up WaveLab only to find out the next version is also XP/2000-only? (It's been awhile since Steinberg announced a new version of WaveLab. I wouldn't hold my breath that it'll work with 9x/Me.) You'll find that you have jumped ship for nothing. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |

"What if you picked up WaveLab only to find out the next version is also XP/2000-only?" I can almost guarantee that the next version will be W2K/XP only. It seems that N2 & SX2 are that way already. Like most companies, they are not going to waste precious programming man-hours on an OS that even MS itself will not be supporting much longer. Billy Buck |

"I've been a full time Engineer for 20 years now, with world wide credits and awards. My Windows 98SE is working fine and I know what I want from an operating system." 20 years? World wide credits? You know what you want? Win98SE is the best you could come up with? Hmmm...what kind of credits? And what kind of engineer? |

Russ, for what it's worth I sympathise. We had/are having a lot of growing pains with OS-X and apples quiet discontinuing alot of MACOS support for a lot of things without filling in many of the OS holes left - at least Panther tries to fill those gaps. Off the record, I'm not so sure if its a smart thing for these companies to try to force feed upgrades/sidegrades as they are doing right now. On the record, its time for you to consider XP as your next purchase rather than wavelab. Better mileage and future compatibility as the next generation of it is still more than three release years away and eventually - probably soon steinberg will freeze you out of using wavelab without a 32 bit OS anyway. I don't condone the idea, but I don't run steinberg or like their products at all. It's just my two cents |

Sound Forge 7.0 does not work that good period. I have Windows XP Home version. Good thing I did not unistall Sound Forge 5.0. I have to back to 5.0 to get some work done. Maybe try using a earlier version such as 5.0 and 6.0 for basic stuff, it works for me. |

I believe Microsoft ends their support of Windows 98 in January of 2004. |

Not sure you should stick with 98SE anyway. Example: Cubase SX will run on 98, but since 98 doesn't reclaim unused RAM, I couldn't run Gigastudio simultaneously, even with 1 Gb of RAM onboard. I was forced to upgrade to XP. You are better off upgrading to XP now, before you find you need it for a project due tomorrow. - Jumbuk |

Before making the move to XP, people should really find out if their hardware is XP compatible . Otherwise, it'll end up costing alot more than just the price of the software. M |

Dear friend, XP is far better than Win98, I would like to suggest you to change your OS because digital Music is changing everyday and to experience new possibilities we have to change too. |

Russrags, even the latest versions of Pro Tools are XP only. For right or wrong the companies are going that way. You can upgrade (Sound Forge 7 on XP Pro has been great for me) or you can stay content with what you currently have. Dave |
