i need input/help here.... over the past 5 years, ive purchased EVERY single loop cd from sonic foundry, except the value-priced $20 ones they released. so its about 90 cds here, and receipts totalling $4100 over the years. and im wondering, now that im through the 'gotta buy them all' phase, wheres the best place to sell them, and i am allowed to sell them, arent i ?(having bought them all and not keeping any on my system because i simply dont find them of interest anymore after making my own for the past year) im thinking, ebay? sell them as one giant package? could i expect at least $1500 for them all? please give me some direction as to the best place to sell them. thanks! gg |

ebaY is a good idea, but i would group them into smaller collections. Put all the heavy bass into one collection, all the techno into another, etc. This way you're much more likely to find buyers who want just a certain group and don't have a lot of money to spend. Make sure you set a high enough minimum bid. I've bought a few things lately that started out as penny bids and gotten them for $0.01 because no one else bid. I kinda feel sorry for the sellers. They were brand new to ebaY and probably never realized that it could sell that low. $1500 for the lot? That works out to $16.67 each. I think that's being optimistic. I think a more realistic expectation would be $5 to $10 each. But, hey, you might get lucky and get bigger bids. If you want to be cautious, set an initial bid of $1 and a reserve of $15 x number of discs in the group (or whatever). This way you'll see what people are willing to bid but you won't actually make a sale unless they go over the reserve. All you have to lose is the small posting fees if you don't make a sale. |

I would imagine that you can sell them, as long as you don't keep anything relating to them. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |

thanks so much for your input. heres whats i did then, i went thru and sorted them into bundles of 10 collections each. and maybe ill hope to get $15x10=$150 for each set. looking on ebay i guess selling depends on popularity of the CD, as they range from right under $10 and i see many right now at $25 for the better ones. so heres the breakdown, is this a good setup? thanks so much again for responding to my post chienworks! no. i would say 'that would require 75GBs on my hard drive'! but nowadays thats nothing. the only proof besides my word is the fact that my receipts show from 99 to 2003 i bought them all, and i wouldnt of sat on them for all these years if i was just ripping them to a hard drive. i just simply dont find them useful, having heard them all, and now knowing how to get my own loops down to a science now. i think once you get it down how to do your own, the loop cds lose their fascination. |

I'm not an expert on this, but ... With most sample CDs, what you are actually buying is the license to publish music containing the samples. You don't actually own the CDs or the material on them, they are just the medium for supplying the material you are licensed to use. You can't usually transfer the license by selling the CDs. Not sure about Sony libraries - you should check the user agreement on them. If the new user is not proposing to publish anything using the loops then they would probably get away with it. If you are planning to use the loops comercially, I would read the agreement first. Having said that, Sony libraries are sold across the counter all over the world, so they probably haven't got very good license records. - jumbuk |
