Subject:Music CD tracks don't start at first track when playing back

After I record my tracks (I have two cds, one with three tracks and one with four tracks), when I play them on cd players, they read and start at track three and four respectively. I can go to tracks one, two, etc., but they should start at track one. I have tried on two different CD players. How do I fix this? Is this a Roxio problem or a Sound Forge problem? Sound Forge is the program I'm using to create the .wav files. This is urgent, as I need to send CDs out today! Thanks, Susan |

May be a burner problem, why not try burning a cd using track at once mode as a test from within Sound Forge. See if the cd's start at track one or from some other track. Another test after that one is finished, try making a CD copy from a "good" CD and see what results you get, leaving SF out of the equation. Those tests whould give you a better idea about what is causing your problems. I got rid of Roxio and am using Nero 6. I am very happy with the results and the fleability. Just don't save metadata and you'll be fine. |

It sounds like you made the CD's by burning each track at different times, also referred to as "multisession". If you do this, you should not close the session (ie finalize the CD) until you are through putting all the tracks on the CD. You probably closed each session as you went along, therefore the only session the CD player will read is the last session. A lot of CD players cannot play multisession discs, or figure you don't want to play the earlier recorded sessions. Try creating a CD with all the tracks assembled at one time, then burn in "disc-at-once" mode. |

"Try creating a CD with all the tracks assembled at one time, then burn in "disc-at-once" mode." Which is a little tricky with Sound Forge. Just burn the 4 tracks before closing the disc and Bob's your uncle. Unless you have a faulty writer. geoff |

I am using Roxio and burning as a CD Project, so all are there to burn at once. I'm going to try burning through XP on my laptop and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for your help. Susan |

Did you select "Audio Project" and DOA (Disk At Once) in the Roxio app.? I have never had a problem with any of the Roxio app. phases (Easy CD Creator, data or audio nor Direct CD) version 5x. Did you try burning directly from Sound Forge? You are limited to TOA (Track At Once) which means there will be a 2 second gap between tracks but the symptom you describe should not be an issue. Finally, failing the above, try different blank media although I've never had any problems with any name brand CD-R blanks unlike DVD X myself. MJ |

I just tried burning on another computer using XP's CD burner. Same problem. I cannot figure this out, but never had this problem with any other stuff. I will try doing it through Sound Forge. Thanks, Susan |
