ok when i make sound recordings they all have a highpitched squeel as a background noise. Is there a way to remove it with soundforge? Using sound forge 7.0 |

Do you happen to be recording scenes from "Deliverence"? |

Are you using speakers or headphones while recording? |

You could try a noise reduction plug-in - grab an area of just noise, get a noiseprint then use the selection button in the bottom right of the plugin window to select all sample data, then check it out, tweak and go. Alternatively, use a low-pass filter or eq, but this may result in a very dull top end. BFB |

You are not getting any quality answers because you didn't post anything about your signal chain or technique. The best advice is, if you intend to record anything again, you must identiify and solve the "high pitched squeal" problem pre-record. Garbage in, garbage out. MJ |

The above is true... I was just pointing out ways of sorting out sounds. The squeal is probably from a poor quality mic input on your sound card, though I can't say for sure, as I've no idea what kit you're using or how you're going about it. If you have a mixer or amplifier available, you could run the mic into this to preamp the input, then take a line out to your sound card's line in, rather than mic in. This should make for a better recording. BFB |

MJ hit the nail on the head!!! Thus my wise ass deliverance reply :-). There are many factors where the squeal may be coming from. Feedback scenarios, bad wiring, unbalanced inputs, Aliasing in the A/D due to their location, ground loops. We have no way of trying to narrow it down for you, aside from taking shots in the dark. Give us details of what you are recording, through what inputs on your sound card, what type of mic and sound cardd you're using and anything else along the signal path from the mic to the sound card. How you're monitoring, and how that monitor system is connected to your sound card. What type of PC you're using. A laptop or a desk top? Also, all the details in the Windows mixer section. Without this type of information, my "Deliverence" explaination is as good as the rest. |
